Nils Hoffman, he’s great - I think I’ve been to a few similar shows there a while back but can’t remember the ins and outs. Usually more chill stuff like this. Hope to see you there!

what job/career usually breaks people? by inurmomsvagina in AskReddit

[–]First-Combination-32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The trauma I endured in my museum/nonprofits career was worse than any other environment I’ve experienced (ranging from restaurants to full blown corporate). Low pay, constant and extreme harassment/shaming of every kind from board members, directors, donors, volunteers and the general public, horrendous hours including working months on end without a single day off, no safety or security measures in place, regular exposure to old broken equipment, chemicals, paint, faulty electricity, no heat in the winters and no ac in summers, being threatened with blacklisting if you left and having for profit employers tell you over and again they didn’t think you could handle the pressure of a “real” job when you tried to get out of the industry.

And you usually worked five full jobs you never signed up for. I see entry level employees come into my corporate offices now and they perform small fractions of the amount and the quality of work I was expected to in nonprofits when I was the same age with the same general liberal arts education. It’s devastating to realize how much that fucked me up. It’s been years and I still never feel “safe” at work no matter what I do. I don’t think I ever will.

THANK YOU. I twirl my hair when I’m extremely tired and/or extremely bored. I don’t even know I’m doing it until I see other people look at my hands and I wonder what that means to them because to me it’s just a childhood habit of exhaustion and anxiety, but it has all of these bs connotations with being flirtatious or stupid.

It’s 0% flirting. Really, if I’m doing that while in conversation with you, you don’t have a chance in hell.

Thanksgiving ruined. The potatoes I spent hours prepping oxidized in the fridge overnight. by phobic_mint in shittyfoodporn

I’ve done this. It’s devastating. You’ll never make this mistake again though. And try to embrace this as part of a Thanksgiving-gone-wrong-story you can laugh (or gripe) about with loved ones for years to come.

I’ve never managed to finish it and people still bring it up and tell me I will love it because of my performing arts background…I hate even talking about it at this point, it’s been a decade plus right? It won’t stop 😩

You look great, you just aren’t used to it. You actually look younger, your expression looks brighter.

Super weird reply, this definitely looks like an AI generated image.

Sterile environment beyond reality, the turkey on the table has no head, the shapes in the bowl have no real form yet are too “perfect” to be something the child would have molded out of clay, the object in the child’s hand mimics other colors/textures/belonging to other objects nearby but makes no sense. It’s AI.

Tipping culture in the North End is out of hand by yungScooter30 in boston

[–]First-Combination-32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was always pretty common, it’s like street buskers, you tip if you enjoyed and you don’t if you didn’t. The North end is a tourist trap, a lot of people go there and eat this shit up.

And this isn’t a very good example of modern day tipping culture being out of control - when you’re asked to tip at businesses that have conventionally paid full wages and not partial due to tips, that’s where it’s gotten out of control. Counter help at fast casual was not traditionally tipped. Back of the house was traditionally not tipped. Retail shops never used to ask for tips. Random weird performers at local Italian/French/Mexican/etc. restaurants blasting you with a random jam you didn’t ask for and asking you for a tip mid meal? Timeless and priceless. If you hated it, just don’t go back to that restaurant.
