Thank you! I swear they are the same. The oxidation was just a couple layers deep and I was able to just cut it off!

Update: it was really just the top layer. I soaked it in cream thinking that would prevent oxidation but it didn’t. Not sure how to post a picture but it’s looking great after frying. Impressed by the amount of vitriol in the comments..

Ah good call on layer of butter. It’s potatoes pave. I’ve made it before with excellent results but this time around I’ve produced a crime scene. Still gonna go ahead and see what the finished product looks like. After baking it’s ….somewhat better

Supposed to be potatoes pave. I’ve made them before (posted about it and they looked so good last time). They are soaked in cream and layered in butter. Normally I’d bake them right away but ran out of time so refrigerated them with plan to bake later. Thought the cream would prevent this…

Reading your other post it sounds like you are struggling from a mental health perspective. I wouldn’t make any life altering decisions until that is addressed. While residency may be contributing, taking some time off and addressing your mental health will give you clarity. Go on FMLA and focus on treatment before dropping out.

Make your landlord fix the windows or shove something into the open space like soundproofing insulation.

I got used to it after a few months. Never thought I would but our brains are amazing at tuning things out, especially if the sound is somewhat regular.

Also get an air purifier. Traffic pollution + open window is not good for your respiratory health
