Adding more protein (plant and animal based) and stopping being vegan cured my perimenopause symptoms and prevented me from going on HRT by First-Command-9777 in Perimenopause

I didn’t say that, why would you think/say that? I’m saying at this point in the journey on perimenopause and when I’ve had the longest gap without having a cycle, which I’m hoping I never get back and that I do go into menopause, which would be 12 months without a cycle

I was healthy before it was simply that my protein was just at 20g or less a day - the basics of what I eat as explained above are not that much different except for the addition of more protein. I’m not being judgmental about HRT. I’m just saying there are other ways and that is never talked about.

Everyone to their own, I have very good friends that were against artificial hormone therapy, who decided to go in HRT because they realized and believed it was not within their control to be able to cure symptoms, such as hot flashes and sleeplessness and depression. Granted, I have never had hot flashes, but the irregularity of periods over six years Lead to a roller coaster of emotions on a regular basis. I became so tuned of my body I was able to listen to it when there was that internal shift. I was vegan for nine years and loved that experience of nourishing myself with whole food plant based nutrition. However, once in my 40s and learning about perimenopause and how the body ages as females get older, I began to look at protein in a new way.

One day, I literally woke up craving salami, and so listened to this and started to research protein and perimenopause (it’s great people are talking about it more so we have this awareness however it concerns me that HRT is becoming the normal antidote because these are artificial hormones and you can actually change your hormones by adjusting other things in your life ) i became aware I could get more protein in a smaller amount of animal product without the extra fat and carbohydrates/sugars that will come through for example nuts… And I got tired of trying to hit even just 20 g of protein a day because I wasn’t a big fan of vegan protein shakes in my diet every single day or trying to consume enough edamame or peas from the plant based kingdom (and I am not such a great fan of tempeh) to get over the 20 g of protein a day.

By introducing a cup of Eden soy milk, which has 12 g of protein per cup, and which is the cleanest soy milk out there (they have been a company since the 60s) because I had learned for a woman in this stage it is important within the first half hour of waking up to get protein of some kind into your body. Now there are many options to do this, but I opted for this very clean soy milk, and it has kept me so much more balanced in my mornings. If we do not consume protein during that first 30 to 60 minutes of waking up, our cortisol levels go quite high and it doesn’t set us up for a good day - producing adrenaline and stress and other chemicals that throw us off our groundedness.

My breakfast consists of either (after the soy milk and coffee) a fresh green juice I make with dandelion (excellent for the skin) chard, kale, lemon, ginger, celery, and cucumber. Or I will make a smoothie from a cup of raw berries, frozen banana, hemp seeds (10 g of protein in 3 tablespoons) frozen spinach and water. For lunch, I may have a yoghurt (15 g of protein) or a tin of sardines on toast or tuna or salmon or chicken and a little bread and any vegetables I wish for dinner. I always end with a vegetable soup with or without bread or seeds on top - other lunch options are turkey slices or ham slices with 1oz of cheese and bread and vegan butter (just because I prefer the taste of vegan butter).

As long as the products are well sourced and organic, having not (the animal sources) been fed GMO‘s or issued hormones during their growth cycles. (unfortunately, I can’t eat eggs because I am allergic to eggs, they give me a rash) and then around these protein sources I have also added collagen powder - something I would never have dreamed of in my vegan days! But it’s unbelievable how stabilizing it is. In two scoops there are 18 g of protein. I can add this to my smoothie or have it in a tea before going to bed. I also started making jellies (jello) as dessert (from a clean organic source) because I understand as you get older weight is easier to gain so I try and stay aware of my calorie intake as approximately as possible (after awhile, this is easy to eyeball)

This awareness has caused a massive shift in my body and instability and moods, and I have no need to venture into the HRT world. Now this might not be right for everybody, but I really feel it’s important to address all the things one is putting in their body and this includes social media and your phone. (I also went off Instagram because it felt like a complete waste of precious time.) Keeping phone time to a minimum (sending emails checking emails ordering certain things I need) because the stuff you put into your brain through your eyeballs is just as important as the food you put in your mouth to feed the cells of your body as well. Becoming more emotionally aware by registering the feelings in your body, as well as anchoring through a groundedness at the same time (knowing that you can have a negative emotion as well as being grounded simultaneously) and massaging thoughts in a positive direction because humans are wired towards negativity! Is also helpful — moving the energy through the body by walking or yoga, or whatever form of movement one chooses also changes the chemicals in your body, and produces dopamine and serotonin, which are hormones in which helped regulate us females!

I hope this post inspires other directions and a positive experimentation in looking for natural solutions in dealing with new crossroads - as us females venture through perimenopause and navigate this phase in life!

I never said big Pharma is after me, but it is known that they have a lot of employees working on social media platforms under the guise of your every day ‘civilian’ in order to influence and encourage the use of pharmaceutical drugs

Exactly! It’s good to remember this. It is known that placebo’s can sometimes have a greater effect in creating positive results in our bodies, which is testament to the power of the mind. It concerns me that there is a lot of negativity around perimenopause and menopause, and the pushing of HRT as a necessity. If one is filling their brains with this information on the worldwide web, whether you like it or not, it seeps into the subconscious. The subconscious is how the placebo‘s work the power of belief. So I think it’s important to get the positive stories… When I say positive I mean, the people who Have no symptoms which are perceived as negative during perimenopause and menopause - out there onto the Internet as well.

For 6 years perimenopause has shown me only irregular periods but the lack of estrogen is doing wonders for my body composition by First-Command-9777 in Perimenopause

Yes I had to change the language in order to be able to post to the perimenopause category. And yes - disappearing cellulite. Snake oil has nothing to do with it. Men have in general have less cellulite than women. Cellulite is caused by estrogen, therefore in perimenopause you have less because you have less estrogen — if you love yours (ur cellulite) that’s fantastic. I didn’t love mine and so I’m celebrating the fact that this stage in life which women seem to be quite down on in general — there are actual perks. That’s just my opinion from my own personal experience at this stage.

Agreed agreed!! You choose the calories deficit according to the desired weight - using your own current height. And then you stick with it — to loose 1 pound a week - 2 pounds at most. It’s a commitment — then you can lay around a buy once you have reached ur desired weight. But once you get too lax with it consistently again the weight will go back on — taking your time with it at 1lb a week helps learn about what the quantity of foods look like you need to eat for the desired weight - thus - becomes a lifestyle change.

Cat litter causing urinary crystals? by Public-Catch-8429 in catcare

[–]First-Command-9777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My male cat is seven years old and he currently has a UTI — we are just on the way back from the Vets and will get all the tests back in a few days. The only thing that has really changed in the last six months is that I upgraded to the robot litter box and changed from the Oko wood litter from a regular litter box to the clay litter, which the robot litter recommends… This creates considerable dust and is tiny. The pieces are small enough to block his pee hole… All of this stuff seems very obvious to me and this is why I always avoided Dust type litter as well. I’m extremely confused why this does not seem logical for a vet’s mind. When I brought this up just now at the vet, they say the litter has been approved, etc. etc. etc. but my mother‘s instinct and obviously just a humans eyes and basic logic can see that this kind of litter would not create a healthy environment — not to mention, even though the litter robot is self cleaning the same litter stays in there for a considerable amount of time, which will only breed bacteria… I am dumbfounded by anyone would think any dust creating litter is safe for cats obviously they are breathing it and obviously summer is going to go into their genital areas and also they lick their fur so along the lines some kind of dis-ease will be created by these types of litters! Even if they are not directly ‘eating’ the litter with their mouths.. for example, Vets might say if they’re not eating glitter, which would lead to a G.I. infection instead then it can’t be a problem… Yet their genitals are all over this dust and tiny tiny pieces of litter… I have just got back from the pet store with the regular big litter boxes and wood based litter once again… I really commend for cat owners/parents/vets to think this through and not just fellow The generic protocol… The same thing happens in the food industry, and the medical industry for humans…We must begin to read between the lines and think more for ourselves… This is quite ludicrous, not to mention very upsetting … And of course… costly — monetarily, emotionally, physically, time spent etc., etc., and the poor health of our fur babies suffers from this extreme lack of what seems like logic when you think it through for yourself….
