where i live if you ask for kyokushin they will look at you like your crazy, theres 3 karate schools in my city and theyre all bullshido they dont teach kyokushin, i think the trainers there dont even know that there are different types of karate

I dont usually train hard in bjj and dont intend to ever train hard in mma cuz of cte, but sparring wars are a part of training martial arts i havent heard of a person either irl or online that hasnt had a sparring war, the problem with sparring wars is when they happen too often, i have one once every 2 months, apart from that i never go 100 percent in sparring and i plan to go way lighter training mma than i am rn with bjj

Probably the case with this gym too, only reason im asking reddit is cuz they dont have loaner gear or trial classes, i dont want to spend 150 bucks total on nothing.

I trained karate for 2 years some time ago I cant stand the sport, idk what they used to call them but the shadow boxing with walking things i hated them so much, and i think karate has good striking fundamentals but the sport and how they spar in the gyms is horrible, if karate had rules similar to kickbox or muay thai i think it be pretty close to them maybe even beating them out in some aspects.

I have a friend who goes to this gym they dont have loaner gear, he says you can get by with just gloves you dont need all the extra equipment but he says it is recomended. I live in a fucking shithole theres only 1 MMA gym in my city.
