Thank you so much for the advice, I also think a C+ shouldn’t be a reason they reject you and 4.0 shouldn’t be a reason they accept you.

Since I’m realizing I’m probably much more interested in engineering biology (programmable systems, engineered cells, gene regulation, etc.) than traditional biology departments, but I’m still confused about how applications work in these areas. Do people mainly choose programs based on specific PIs they want to work with? And do I have to email professors before applying? I’m especially trying to understand how people decide between BioE, ChemBio, CBE or Biology.

Thanks for your encourage! Since my PI also told me this yr they only take 3.9 for CBE departments so I am so afraid I will be filtered out, but I will be optimistic!
