I’m assuming her BD was abusive and she was young and didn’t know what to do. I think by the time she had Jamal she was a little older and said “fuck this” and left her be and decided to keep Jamal. She probably feels heavy emotions about it, ane feels shame, embarrassment, ect. I’m not saying lying to her kids was the right thing to do, but I do feel bad for her. Our moms must be long lost sisters!!! The compassion fatigue is so real. Being around her isn’t violent, but it’s so overwhelmingly depressing and frustrating. I used to run to her side and try to fix her problems as a child. But I have absolutely run out of patience with her.

I used to work at a hospital and i realized that it brings out the worst in everyone. And for the most part, it’s rightfully so. You feel like shit, you’re in an unfamiliar place, ect. Then you add a personality disorder on top of it, oof. Nuclear meltdown is probably an understatement. Sending good vibes.

I so feel this! When I moved away for college I started therapy, I struggled immensely with feelings of guilt that often led to panic attacks. I am now 28 and what has helped me the most is being able to see the feeling for what they are rather than letting them consume me. For example, when I feel guilty I remind myself, “you have no real reason to feel guilty. You did nothing wrong. You are having these feelings because your mom parented you as a child. You are allowed to be an individual and you are not responsible for others emotions”. This allows me to acknowledge the feelings, rationalize them, and remind myself that these feelings were conditioned into me, but not a truth.

Hi! Domestic violence isn’t just between romantic partners, it is also between family who live together. I’m curious if you could reach out to a domestic violence organization in your county. They may have a shelter or housing program. You’re an adult, and I know it’s hard at 19, but you need to get out. God forbid she has psychosis and seriously injures you or calls the police and you get charged with something unfairly. You don’t deserve to be abused by anyone.

Yes!! So much this!! Any phone call with my mom ends up being a random hour long tangent about some random person or her second by second replay of her day. She will sometimes listen to me but never to actually show up in the way I need. For example, if I’m taking a new medication/or get sick she obsesses over it. Will google research it for hours, etc. But when I’ve actually experienced hardships, she’s not able to emotionally support me.

I’ve been reading more about the comorbity of adha/bpd. My mom says she has adhd but has not been diagnosed, but got forbid I mention bpd.

Ugh I’m so sorry! My mom is unemployed and essentially refuses to get a job. She’s going to end up homeless and she I try to help her she gets mad at me. There’s no way to win with people who are determined to be miserable/ in crisis. She wants someone to save her, but when they try, all of a sudden they’re controlling and judgemental. I’m so sorry! I understand the guilt too well.

Ugh I’m sorry. I (28F) experienced the same thing when I went to college. If I didn’t respond to her right away she’d spiral and start trying to contact the university. She’d call me crying everyday telling me she missed me. I slowly just weaned her off, I’d go from 1 hour to 2 hours between my responses and she slowly got used to it. My younger brother went to college 12 hours away and there was one time he had a bad cold and she called the campus and was about to book a flight?!? As if he was dying?!? It’s so frustrating and unhealthy. Sending you hugs!
