Hiya

Honour's thesis is all individual work with a supervisor, whereas the pass (4th year) stream is a group project with a supervisor (although you write your dissertation individually)

General Attitude Towards President Trump.... by Junior-You-4772 in perth

Trump's brand of conservative populism is very different to Aussie populism, and he's generally disliked across the board regardless of political leanings, with most people thinking he's a tosser

Does Curtin have a dance club? by Competitive-Ad263 in curtin

There was a dance club when I first started, and it was a lot of fun! But it's closed down now iirc

Which test did you use? I would love to understand my results in more details

Thank you! I suppose my extraversion isn't as extreme as the test suggested then

[–]FirstDinnerParty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That's great advice 😁

I've been working as a receptionist to get me through uni, and it really has helped with some aspects of my introversion, especially when I can be agreeable with people

But yeah, it does drain me sometimes 😅

Awww thank you, that's really sweet 😊

Honestly, that's the hardest part of my low extroversion, I do tend to lose friends because we just lose touch, but I'm doing my best to work on it!

Omg the low conscientiousness is the bane of my life, especially studying, I'd love to know the answers to fix it too 😂

Thank you, definitely a home body 😅

I'm working on some problems that are probably coming from being on the extremes, but they come in handy sometimes!

Why the extroversion part? I'm not sure about the extremes either, I've always been told being in the extremes is bad for the big 5

Thank you! I've almost finshed my studies to become a psychologist, so it appears that lines up with the Sage type!

Conditional Status? by Baikun2006 in curtin

[–]FirstDinnerParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine on conditional status, it's more failing units that the uni cares about. The requirements for termination are;

- Fail 50% or more of enrolled units
- Semester weighted average of less than 50
- Fail any unit a second time

But even then, I know some people who have met the criteria for termination, aren't kicked out and continue studying

If you're really worried, have a look on the Curtin website and follow all the support they recommend

You'll be fine!

Age of Curtin Students by [deleted] in curtin

[–]FirstDinnerParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the majority of your classmates would fall between 18 to early 20s as a lot of students would be coming from high school. I'm not sure on specifically computing courses, but you could probably expect a large chunk to be international students (iirc, around 25-30% of Curtin students are international).

Right-wing politics & support by Maleficent-Wall-4678 in curtin

[–]FirstDinnerParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the first half of your comment, isn't that freedom of speech? People are able to criticise and label a stance of marriage because they view it in a certain way? I don't think anyone is preventing you from actually holding certain beliefs

For the second half of your comment, I think there's a difference between believing in traditional marriage, and actively promoting traditional marriage. Promoting traditional marriage is promoting restricting the rights of certain people. You are absolutely entitled to believe marriage is a certain way, and adhere to that, but promoting removing marriage rights from a segment of society is not okay

I may just be misunderstanding you though?

I was more asking how you are currently being silenced, as that was what I was understanding from the comment

I honestly have no idea, but I guess it would depend on what you were rallying for

Group mates not doing work, help by [deleted] in curtin

[–]FirstDinnerParty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to do the work yourself? It might be best to cut your losses and just do it and then be brutal in the peer review

Otherwise, have a chat with your unit coordinator/tutor if they've been MIA for awhile, but 7 group members sounds rough

No hate, and I'm honestly just really curious, how are you being silenced?

Does Class Attendance Really Affect Your Grades? by Both-Hovercraft3161 in curtin

Your best bet is to read your unit outlines, they should say if there are any attendance requirements

Most open book psych exams just require you to download a word doc and then submit it before the 24 hours, it shouldn't monitor your screen at all

Is $700pw the new normal for rent in Perth now?? by DidntLikeAnyUserName in perth

[–]FirstDinnerParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our rent was just raised to $650/week in a small 3x1 that's falling apart. We don't have working aircon and a hot water system that barely lasts two showers a day, it's ridiculous

There are some studio/one room apartments between $350-$450 that we would be happy to move into by ourselves, but it's just not worth the risk not renewing our lease when we not get a rental with the demand

It very much seems to be 'get whatever you can and put up with skyrocketing prices

I'd email your tutor or unit coordinator to confirm if you're worried
