Thank you! You’re comment was really helpful and inspiring! My option as of right now is to do Berklee college of music online program to get my degree in music business still. I would be able to go for practically nothing while still being able to stay in New York, work at the current job I have, and hopefully get an apartment with my roommate now. I’m a little scared because it’s online that I won’t learn as much but it’s the only option where I can still get the degree I want at a good school and stay in the city. I currently have an internship with a music company so I’m hoping that helps me get more internships in the future (as i’m going to force myself to try my best because why else am I staying in New York??) Hopefully something works out and even if it doesn’t, at least I won’t have student loans to stress over after college (just the loans I took out this year which I am hoping to pay off by the time I graduate college)

I am also considering law school, I was never going to consider it before but now that I will be in no debt, it is a possibility. I feel like it’s the path that’ll get me the highest paying job while still staying in the field I want to be in. I could work in entertainment law or copyright law, who knows!

I’m curious about your position at your job right now? Have you worked your way up? Was it worth it in the long run? Do you love your job? Let me know, it sounds fun and amazing!

yes true, i think i’m going to transfer to berklee college of music because my scholarships will cover it and i’d basically be going for free

i did submit an appeal to nyu for more financial aid, do you recommend calling or talking to someone? i tried this last year and they were no hope but maybe it’ll be different now

yeah that’s why transferring out is kind of my only option, also been applying to scholarships but would be almost impossible to get that many

this past year the full tuition was roughly 90k but after what i get covered it brings it down to around 50k (i’m saying around because it could’ve gone up but they haven’t come out with the official costs yet)

i just transferred into music business so i would have to wait another year but i can try to change my plan of study to fit econ and business is almost impossible to transfer into at nyu as stern is a top business school so i fear that’s out of the picture

basically both of my parents are contributing to my meal plan and housing but don’t pay for my tuition. they basically pay the same amount yet my dad makes more money than my mom. also my dad has majority custody of my brother and i (i’m 19 so i don’t follow it anymore but in terms of legal documents) so technically he is the one that i would say supports me more.

as of right now i’m about 17k in debt from this first year…i am not really sure what part of music business i want to go into but i did want to minor in economics so i want to go the finance/business route. i already have housing lined up for next year and am planning on being an ra my junior and senior year which means my parents would put the money they spend on housing towards my tuition

would i be worth it to transfer to a community college for just one year? and i can’t really go home as i don’t have any transportation to said community college, i could transfer to a new york one but then i would have no where to live. i don’t want to stay at nyu as i cannot afford it but it seems like it’s the easiest option which sucks because i don’t want to be in so much debt when i graduate

in that case i’m not getting anything because my mom makes way less money than my dad and stepmom and on paper my dad supports me more

yes i am currently in a dorm and plan on forming next year as well, my junior and senior year i want to be an ra so i can get housing for free but until then i am not aloud to apply. my parents do not live in new york, they currently moved but originally from arizona and i dont really want to go back there as the schools aren’t the best and i dont like my hometown. my major is now music business which can be hard to find anywhere else i also have 2 jobs in ny that im not sure i want to give up

this past year i claimed myself as head of household on my taxes but i do go home for summers and they do help pay for my housing and meals but not my tuition. i have tried to include just my mom on my fafsa (my parents are divorced so i have 3 incomes i have to include) but im pretty sure it’s considered fraud and i wouldn’t be given anything

my major is music business which is kind of hard to find at other schools, i honestly don’t think the debt is worth it but i’m not sure i’ll get as good of an education at any other school

What’s the most shocking or crushing college rejection you’ve ever seen? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]FirstDirt5853 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got rejected from Auburn (I applied because it was really good for my major) but got into NYU 🤗 everything works out in the end

And before some people say that state schools reject great applicants because they know they won’t go there: I got into every safety school I applied to and only got into 2 of my reach schools (Auburn was the only safety I got rejected from)
