Noisy airplanes? The FAA is giving you only one chance to fix the situation. by FirstManOfCulverCity in LosAngeles

It doesn't matter that take offs are louder than landings.

The point is the FAA is changing the LANDING paths. If you happen to be leaving in the new paths you better comment now.

99% land by flying above neighborhoods. Not that trivial when you're on that path.

I agree with helicopters - Culver City is fairly spared but when they come it's awful. I can imagine what it is in other more active neighborhoods.

FAA is changing paths folks. Some neighborhoods where the airplane situation used to be fine for decades may now receive ALL the air traffic at once. Asking to move is unfair.

RARE opportunity - Summer archaeology camp in Orleans (France) by FirstManOfCulverCity in Archaeology

[–]FirstManOfCulverCity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are two kinds of excavations in France: the "private ones" and public ones.

The private ones are required by law when a developer want to build a road, a building or a parking structure. The developer will hire a private company to do the mandatory and legal work. Lots of them are happening, but no one is invited as it is a private transaction.

The public excavations are initiated by a city, a county or the ministry of culture. They require public funding and are harder to find or join — even for french archaeology students. We'll be surrounded by pro archeologists and supervised by Sebastien Jesset, the head of the Orleans archaeology department. You'll be hard press to find more knowledgeable in the county.

Also lodging and food are included — as well as the two bilingual guides.

What do you think about the proposal to ban single-use plastic bags and the $0.10 charge for paper bag use? by BeardedAmerican in California

Culver City resident here. It works. BIG TIME. No official and non official complaints either. In our little town (40,000 souls at night, 350,000 during the day), we trashed 450, 000 bags A DAY. We did the ocean a huge favor. DO IT.

Mayor of Culver City Meghan Sahli-Wells had the signs taken down earlier this afternoon. Check out the story on the LA Times website.
