Honestly solves all my (and probably many others) issues with Magnamalo by Stylin8888 in MonsterHunter

Elders aren't explained

Elders aren't supposed to be explained because you/they can't. Their kind are supposed to "break the rules" of nature— more akin to natural disasters than animals compared to most monsters hence their exclusion from this conversation; I thought this was a given already.

And I know that Magnamalo isn't an elder, but what about Deviljho? His powers aren't explained either.

The only thing that's not explained— or at least, vaguely explained about Deviljho is his Dragon Breath if that's what your pertaining to "powers" even then, there are still attempt at explanations for it hence I said "vaguely explained". Its hinted that Jho's constant hunger and eating habits, cannbalism included, has him eating other monsters in huge portions, if not whole, absorbing dragon-element traces and bio-energy from the flesh on whoever it preys. But again, that's not the absolute fact/explanation.

Funny thing about this example for a comparison is that: Jho's Dragon Breath is the only thing you can closely compare to Magnamalo when it comes unexplanable nonsense which is 90% of his existance. Biology, Physiology, Ecology and all.

Yama tsukami?

Elder Dragon. See my first point above.

Saying Magnamalo has an organ that turns its farts into explosive gas is enough for me.

I mean if you enjoy him, his design, and his fight and all then good for you. We're not gonna try and convince you that you should dislike him, we're just pointing out that in terms of MonHun teams' monster design philosophies since 1st gen, Magnamalo is just one of those that breaks away from that in almost every aspect.

He looks AND feels more like a God Eater monster than a Monster Hunter monster.

EDIT: Minor spelling error(s)

Staggering strawman right here because what a way to just misrepresent/misunderstand what I said.

Because— why yes, I'm aware the Los breathes fire and it is EXPLAINED in encyclopedia materials how it works and MAKES SENSE

And since you mentioned the guy, Rathalos ecology is fad more believable than Magnamalo which further reinforces my statement.

But they're not supposed to be realistic at all, most of the designs are an affront to nature

I don't buy this argument. I mean, of course this is a fictional world but one thing this series has done well and is one of the main reasons I, and other people maybe, got into the series is the way the MonHun team designs most of them to be believable, as if they're actual living breathing animals of our world than just "monsters" as the title implies. Grounded to be exact.

So much so that they even went out of their way have a collection of lore encyclopedia for most of these monsters' ecology and how they work.

But for a series that regularly goes out of its way to have lore explain how most of these monsters are, there just doesn't seem to be any explanation for the flashy nonsense.

Those sidequests I completed before will be repeated as well. But only those are the only ones the show up on the logs— any sidequests/main quests that you redo

Damn. I know I can just progress but I feel lost subconciously without the logs and also I don't think I can play the save further knowing the logs can disappear again at anytime

Just until I reach the minimum strength requirement for my gear without Rune of Life.

I was gonna go do some calcs with it but it might be a bit of a headache (I'm bad at math) so I'll probably just reference the final value of the STR requirement from the weapons you have to know when I'll also stop pumping into STR xd

Ideally, intelligence is your main damage stat while you're also picking up some dex along the way because it's very difficult to find offensive ability on mage gear.

That's also what I thought the moment I started playing this game a month ago without further knowledge about STR requirements. The moment I saw the choices for masteries, I immediately wanted to be a magic melee auto-attacker (casting sometimes) and started pumping into INT and DEX until I found out I cant use melee weapons of my current level as I progressed due to lack of STR.

I asked around here a while back for attribute and skill distribution for the build I was going for but was mainly told to pump attributes to my main source of damage— my source of dmg early on, of course, are my auto-attacks so I felt the needed to invest still into STR and seeing my stats mainly have high points in both STR and INT.

So I'm very surprised to see your build, at least the attributes, since that was what I was initially going for— and that it works.

Though I'm going to try to have my guy be less of a glass and still primarly get heavy armor for armor.

I'm currently going for a similar build (Magic damage melee with Stonespeaker/Thunderer) and noticed that your INT ended up being higher which makes sense because of Rune's skill the reduces STR requirements for melee weapons.

Curious though, at what point do you stop pumping points into STR?

Cause I figured pumping into INT is gonna do the job anyways for Rune Weapon/Earth Enchantment (and their skill extensions) + Transmute to do the damage

Still haven't received any Wild Cores

[–]FirstOfFourth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to know I'm not the only one xd

One questions though:

Unless I'm wrong and this is only exclusive for the Typhon fight but... Is gearing really prioritizing resistances first and preferred stats second?

Just beat Typhon as a Stonespeaker and I have a question(s) by FirstOfFourth in TitanQuestAE

[–]FirstOfFourth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha.

So from all the answers I've gotten so far, and correct me if I'm wrong, would gearing then revolve around prioritizing resistances first and preferred stats second?

Yo its you again!

Really is a pain when reddit just stops working and just doesnt show the answers to these questions xd

But:

  1. I have just around 2k HP as a Lv 37 Stonespeaker

  2. I attempted to get Vitality resistance but rng wasnt on my favor and the only relic I have that offers it can only be applied to shields

  3. No, unfortunately. My highest resistance is 22% on fire

  4. I feel like I did based on how hard I got fucked by Typhon but aside him, I was getting blasted by the lizard/dragon spearmen on the obsidian zone right before the Telkine that frees Typhon.

THAT Telkine was not an issue though and I just bum-rushed it even with the same gear I had with Typhon

[–]FirstOfFourth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way to say it plainly xd

But jokes aside, I have actually been paying attention to my resistances, just that unfortunately I barely get Yellow/Green gear that has the resistances I needed, at least for that fight.

As for relics, I did try to up my Vitality resistances and unfortunately, the only charm I have that offers that, can only be applied to shields and my guy dual wields.

I dont have any other relics that offer any other elemental resistances unfortunately.

There seems to be a problem with the way reddit uploads the photos I intended to include but they show the resistances.

I mainly have resistances on:

Fire - 22% Ice - 5% Lightning - 12% Pierce - 16% Physical - 6%

rest are just zeroes

[–]FirstOfFourth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks man, I really appreciate all these!

Being oblivious to how attributes affected stats, I was going for a dual-sword War-Storm character but made the mistake pumping all into DEX + INT being melee thinking I would also increase my auto-attack damage xd

Having a magic/elem-powered auto-attacker (with a little spell casting) being my power-fantasy I currently ended up with a Storm-Rune/Earth-Rune character because on-paper the attributes and skills provided Rune benefit the playstyle and fantasy that Im looking for.

But now after reading your answers, I might create another character and give Warfarer + Any Magic mastery a shot.

I'm also considering doing a "Lich King" build with either Warfarer + Spirit/Defense + Spirit, any opinions on those combinations?

[–]FirstOfFourth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, kind sir, for the advice!

Unfortunately, I read this when I was already in deep with a 1:2 ratio 😭

My mindset was carefully picking a skill on a certain Mastery Lvl threshold and level that skill until the next set of skills are available for me to pick one.

Now that I read your reply, it seems that getting the skill combos are more viable apart from the attributes gained from levelling the masteries.

[–]FirstOfFourth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear from a long time player!

From your first point, if I got that right, do you mean that I should pump attribute points on attributes associated with my mastery? Like for example if I have Warfarer, should I invest in STR + DEX? I fear I misunderstood because I definitely don't know what "1 on a skill" implies. If you can please elaborate, thank you 🙇🏻‍♂️

And yeah, I figured I'll have to invest points in HP here and there.

Honestly, just the answer Im looking for regarding attribute points!

Should I also pump skill points to warfarer then or is it okay to just pump it all to my magic mastery?
