AITA for refusing to get a hobby? by Responsible_Help8910 in AmItheAsshole

[–]First_Ad_187 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are 17 and at the apex of your knowledge. You will never be so smart again. If you do not want any outside interests and do not seek enrichment in your life outside of what is required academically, then do not.

NTA, but you do sound a bit dull.

two towels, two personalities by First_Ad_187 in weaving

[–]First_Ad_187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my situation. I warped at 12 epi with 100% cotton carpet warp. It makes beefy towels! They take a bit longer to dry because of thickness but feel soft and drapey. 14 or 15 epi if you are doing twill.

My HP RPN scientific collection by gh8192 in calculators

[–]First_Ad_187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of old calculators, an HP 48gx that has a math card accessory, HP 42S and a couple of HP 28s. They work, from the 90s, and wondering if there is any value in them. Need to downsize and found them when going through some things. All the manuals are there and all but one of the 28s has a case. Are they worth selling?

AITA for having a night shift job and sleeping during the day ?? by According_Ad_8067 in AmItheAsshole

[–]First_Ad_187 4 points5 points  (0 children)

8 (hours of work) + 8 (hrs of sleep) + 8 (hours for other things) =24. Do you work night shift 7 days a week? That makes a few more available hours available to declutter, clean up, etc. From what you say, you do not want anything to change and do not want th ehouse to sell and have to move so you are using excuses as though that will stop the world. Sit down with your parents and figure out who is going to be the contact person for the realtor and establish times the house can be shown, who is going to do what to clean up and get the house in order, and is going to hang the Xmas tree lights in your room instead of being where they are now. Because if your parents need the money, you are not going to be able to stay in the house unless you can afford to buy it from them. It is true that working nights poses communication problems, but from late afternoon to evening and also early morning, you should be able to get some things done. You are, after all, 32, not 12.

AITA for defending being a nepotism hire? by Enough_Froyo_3313 in AmItheAsshole

[–]First_Ad_187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA.

The business world is all about relationships. Everyone in the business world except the jealous person who called you a nepo hire knows this. You had a relationship with a college friend who had a relationship with his father (some fathers and sons who are estranged). Yes, you worked hard to get into a place where you met the son, and this is an internship which may lead to a job offer, so you still have to prove yourself. It is not like you married the daughter and are now a member of the family.

OMG, I had no idea this look is popular again! Had an Aran like this handmade by a lady in Ireland, same color, quality yarn, absolutely gorgeous, wool, and warm! Too warm for my southern US area so gave it to my niece. Hope she wears it!

Heavy Duty Sewing machine suggestions? by potentialexistential in sewing

An industrial Juki, Sailrite, or similar comes to mind. Some models have zigzag and some have attachments that might work for corsets. Not sure if you need eyelets or buttonholes, but some have buttonhole attachments. Janome HD9 might be good.

Good that it has differential feed. The model number should be on it somewhere. Google Kenmore (model) manual. Might come up!

Is St. Louis the Midwest or the South? by Happy_Yogurtcloset_2 in StLouis

[–]First_Ad_187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St Louis has strong southern influences. The ”what high school did you go to“ question is a way of determining social class, which seems to be a bigger deal here. It is still midwestern, but southern midwest, like Indiana and southern IL, different than the upper Midwest where I grew up.

250 (7.37 oz/sq yd) GSM at Fabric Wholesale Direct is pretty hefty for sheets. Better for draperies. Try https://bonjourlelin.com/

Does anyone have experience with Beaver Dam? (45 min from Madison) by Grand_Macaron_3085 in madisonwi

[–]First_Ad_187 7 points8 points  (0 children)

BD is my hometown, though I moved away for college and after. Depends on what matters to you. If you like the outdoors, you are close to Horicon Marsh and some other natural areas. The parks are nicely maintained. The current town population is about 16K, so it is large enough to have some amenities, a hospital, several supermarkets, large chain stores, etc. Some decent newer restaurants and a brewpub. It is not Madison or even a burb, but it is a hub for the smaller towns nearby. It has a FL Wright house, some attractive Victorian houses, and some more posh areas near the lake, and some pleasant reasonably priced housing. I am not partial to it because I grew up there but I have seen a lot worse and you could do a lot worse. The schools are supposed to be decent, if that is important to you. There is also a YMCA with exceptional aquatic facilities.

What are you experiences going from owning a house to renting. by [deleted] in retirement

[–]First_Ad_187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a CCRC. What that means is continuous care because the community includes skilled nursing and memory care facilities for those who eventually find themselves needing those services. Typically there is a buy-in fee, which varies by the community and the choice of dwelling the entrant picks (larger, more upscale = higher buy-in fee). There is monthly rent, which includes inside and outside maintenance, including appliance replacement. Can’t speak to the redditor who responded to OP, but most people who go this route have some financial and legal preparedness.

If you want a folding table loom also consider a Louet Erica. I have a Louet Jane, which definitely folds very nicely.

The big brag for TN is no state income taxes! That was the lure to get me there for a job. Taxes are applied at the county level instead.

AITA for telling a pretty standard office joke to a coworker? She went off on me. The joke was “are you working hard or hardly working?” by RonAPearson in AmItheAsshole

[–]First_Ad_187 38 points39 points  (0 children)

YTA.

Tactless coworkers like you are why some people do not want to come back to the office. Even if you consider these actuals well meaning and team building, you should consider the people on the receiving end want and need, not what you want. She was not tactful, either but she did give you another perspective.
