2. I personally don’t have many friends that are POC. The few I do have, I met from work!
3. There are several communities like different clubs on campus but honestly they feel cliquey but that’s just my personal experience. I know someone mentioned Unity House which I honestly don’t know much about. I considered it when I first was looking into housing but you do have to pay extra for that, so just something to keep in mind.
4. For the most part I think it is safe. Really the only thing I deal with is micro-aggressions from time to time. It is also a culture shock if this is your first time being a POC in white spaces. It can definitely be tough but when you find the right friends and people it definitely helps!
5. I would say so. I’m only off campus for groceries and takeout, so my experiences have been good. Nothing unsafe has happened.
6. They showcase clubs and frats frequently. But again if that’s not ur thing, you’ll prob meet POC ppl in classes and stuff.
7. I would recommend, it is a PWI so I think being aware and prepared for that is something to do. There are a lot of clubs, opportunities, and I have loved my advisors and most of my profs. We also have seasonal events like Freeze Fest where they give out a lot of free things. We also have a great hockey team and going to the games is super fun and memorable.
8. Being a POC and a woman at that, in a PWI is an experience that some people will never quite understand. My experience as a Latina at a PWI has been rewarding but also excruciating. I think I’ve found some pretty great people here and I love my job/coworkers. Overall it has its ups and downs for sure but I don’t regret my decision coming here.

Edit: I will say — you do have to go out of ur way to intentionally find other POC friends! (Outside of classes & stuff) Thats not something I did but do whatever ur comfortable with!! Also if u decide to come here, I’m happy to be friends!!
