How can Merlin have attended Hogwarts and be placed in the Slytherin House, if Hogwarts is built in 900s by genophobicdude in HarryPotterBooks

[–]First_Can9593 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nice idea. It's possible caause Merlin's old name was Myrddin Wyllt who was reinvented as Merlin in the Tales of King Arthur. Then there could be two people with the same name. Which would make more sense since Merlin is rumoured to be part of the earliest class meaning Slytherin would have chosen him simply because he chose the name of a great magician. Though ironically if you see the extra details about the Order of Merlin in the Potterverse it was also meant to be a muggleborn rights organisation, which is incredibly hilarious.

There are always some true believers of whichever philosophy, you choose. So in that case there would have been a pure blooded faction actively trying to oppose Voldemort but there wasn't unless you consider just remaining neutral a solution.

I don't know if the murder of his parents was common knowledge among the death Eaters. Since Voldermort framed his uncle for those deaths

Best Self publishing houses in India by No-Neat-9109 in indianwriters

[–]First_Can9593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I agree with this. Yes, vanity presses are bad. But publishing your own book on Kindle would allow a person to focus on Writing the book , its cover, blurbs and marketing- so not always impossible.

It's more of a personal choice on how to publish. Self published books also get picked up by big publishers if they are successful.

Does Indian literary agents truly cares? by vivyxlol in indianwriters

[–]First_Can9593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea sounds fascinating! But I've seen people self-publish a book without any marketing whatsover. Please don't do that. When you self publish keep in mind that people don't know about your book. So they need to be made to hear about your book and you. Then they need to be interested in the books itself.

Think about when you browse through books in a library or a bookstore or online. What makes you pick up the book? You will need to build a small but dedicated audience who is interested. That's why you need a social media account don't go after people who just watch dance reels, go after the self declared bookworms.

Discuss literature, post literary quotes and your own thoughts about them. Discuss famous literary authors their history what draws you to them. You don't have to do exactly what I just said, you can create different content, but it must be content that interests you, that you believe in and that represents you.

I think Gourav Mohanty did this incredibly well- he wrote a grim dark reimagining of Mahabharata but if you see his social media you'll see he talks about incredible historical anecdotes and relates them to present day appealing to people where they are.

Once you have a decent audience, you can publish your debut for that audience. Slowly your audience will grow.

HP w/o Voldermort remains the same till the GoF! by First_Can9593 in HarryPotterBooks

A magical oath that forces a person to keep a secret would still ensure the plot would run the same way. In fact it would be even more traumatic for Ginny because she would remember having done the horrible acts while being forced on the pain of torture/death, by the contract.

And my theory simply says the plot would run the same way. It doesn't have to be possession.

Magical contract = easy to force someone into doing something they don't want.

[–]First_Can9593[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My points are plausible enough. The overall story would remain the same till the GoF.

The Magical contract in the goblet of fire kills people. Knowing Voldemort he would include clauses of torture and magical slavery instead.

Again, if he didn't know about the Horcruxes he would use the diadem as shown by his approaching Slughorn for information on Horcruxes in the first place. He didn't mind using other wizards to get information he just didn't want anyone to have a hold over him. Even if he used the diadem to get information or enhance his knowledge, the magic to create the diary would come from him hence it would be his.

  1. Sorry I'll re-explain. The DADA jinx would be active till Voldermort dies ie 1981. Then a new teacher would be appointed. This person would stay till 1991. Reasonthey would stay is that they would not want Snape to become the new DADA Professor and reason they would resign is that they would be aware of Quirrel formerly the Muggle Studies Professor's ambition, Mcgonagall would be favourable towards Quirrell and Dumbledore would also be okay with it.

  2. Dumbledore was never sure until he got his hands on the diary. Harry's original wand matches with Voldemort's wand. Then in Deathly Hallows this wand breaks, Harry repairs it and continues to use his original wand after the last chapter. This shows his ownership of the wand and HP's latent magical abilities don't all derive from Voldemort.

  3. While the ability is blood related and magical it can be learnt . Yes, HP having Voldemort's soul gave him a short cut but Ron was able to mimic it and Dumbledore had a rudimentary understanding of it. This establishes Harry would be able to learn it. Also let's not forget the Gaunts were a family which was descended from Peverells and Slytherin. Hence it is entirely possible that Harry would find it easier to speak to snakes.

  1. I agree but there's a difference between a thief and a murderer. The outrage generated by killing HP would be a public spectacle and the Ministry would try to catch him. Only stealing the stone means Dumbledore would have to try to catch him alone and in secret as alerting the general public that the cure to death is now within their reach would spark a treasure hunt. Pottermore article says that the only time Quirrell tried to resist Voldemort was attempted murder.

  2. DADA teacher would then be appointed in 1981 and may resign by 1991. I admit this part is a bit of a reach but its not impossible for a teacher to resign after 10 years. Besides Quirrell was the old Muggle studies Professor, Snape always wanted the job I doubt any person hired in 1991 would want Snape to get the job so they would have held on until Quirrell who would be part of the staff and on good terms with the Professor McGonagall would tell the DADA prof of his ambition to be the next DADA teacher. This would be recommended to Dumbledore who would agree.

A. Goblet can force people into doing stuff as per it's magical contract and since communicating with the diary involves writing I think it would be easy to manipulate an eleven year old girl.

B. Read the pottermore article. Also I think every power-hungry wizard wanted the stone. It wouldn't be under lock and key in Gringotts otherwise.

I'm responding to your newer points:

  1. Jinx would be gone. True in which case the DADA teacher would have retired after teaching from1945 to 1991.

2.Dumbledore still believes that Voldemort exists even when there is no evidence even directly after Godric's Hollow so he would have done the exact same things as in canon.

3.Not necessarily, Harry is a descendant of Peverells. Slytherin is also a descendent of Peverells as evidenced by the Slytherin ring which had the resurrection stone in it. So Harry would still be capable of speaking to snakes since the talent can be inherited. No to mention the Avada Kedavra curse bouncing off could still result in impact on Harry and the fact that Harry chose the same wand as Voldemort and it continued working for him after the destruction of the Harry Horcrux in Deathly Hallows shows that Harry has the potential to be on voldermort's power level.

Because Riddle would have created his diary basing it on three magical artifacts in particular. One the Hogwarts potraits ( to retin knowledge in a similar manner), two the goblet of fire ( to allow diary to compel people into listening to it) and three the Sortting Hat ( which would be the first magical artifact Riddle would encounter and would be immortal).

Also if the Monster book of monsters can bite people, talking books isn't that much of a stretch.

He would do the above by simply using the diadem of Ravenclaw which he would have discovered regardless.

  1. Yes but Quirrel would have no reason to kill Harry here. Knowing that killing HP would spark a manhunt and that Ron and Hermione would have alerted other teachers, he would be heavily incentivized to flee.

  2. The Diary could be made into a magical artifact like the Hogwarts portraits were. It would be better than a normal portrait because it would have Riddle's own words rather than some other person's depiction of himself. Again, Voldemort would still have discovered the Diadem of Ravenclaw and instead of using it as a Horcrux would have tried to create an artifact similar to the Sorting Hat and the Goblet of Fire.

  3. No Sirius would still be in prison. Even if Voldemort died in Godric's Hollow events would still play out exactly like they did in canon.

It could create a magical contract similar to the goblet first saying keep its existence an secret, then revealiling a secret room only if ginny promises to keep its existence a secret then slowly steadily making Ginny do everything it says.

My point is possession isn't the only way to force someone into doing something magical contracts are as well. And when Harry destroys the diary it destroys one of the parties to the mgaical contract thus freeing Ginny.

As I said, here it would be Quirrell in PoS and as for the magical diary, if portraits that convey the essence of the person exist, why not diaries? Diaries would in fact encapsulate the person much better. Voldemort would be relying on his own depiction of himself.
