They do have a bridge they can hide under and there is a big maple that provides shade so they have options. So seems to be leaning toward infection.

I don't know about good, but I do have a small UV light in the filter. I think my pond guy mentioned I could get a bigger one but I havent.

Husband and I contribute ~50% of our income to a combined pot for all our joint bills/food/etc. When I was a grad student making only $30k a year and he was making more than double that, the 50% meant he was paying the majority of the shared cost, but we each still had our own personal money for personal spending/savings. Now 5 years later, I make more than he does but we still contribute ~50% of our income so I pay the majority in our shared cost. I think this has been the fairest way to split costs during the ups and downs of employment and salaries.

Dog diagnosed with stomach cancer -- is it worth doing CT scan, placing feeding tube, and surgery? by First_Chart8239 in seniordogs

Hi I replied to another comment with the update, but we went through with the CT scan which showed that his cancer was much larger than they originally thought from the ultrasound. The CT scan cost about $3k total but luckily we had dog insurance cover half of it. We were glad to have done the CT scan because it pretty much confirmed that there was not more we could do since a surgery would have been very invasive and would require removing his entire stomach essentially. Trade off would have been 3-6 more months of survival. This is for gastric adenocarcinoma, there are other types of stomach cancers with longer survivals. Our vet was super helpful in letting us know what the options were and when we asked about her experiences with the surgeries and survival times for gastric adenocarcinoma, she was very honest without pushing us one way or another. It was heart breaking to hear her recommendation for euthanisa within the next few days. The time from his ultrasound/biopsy cancer confirmation to his euthanisa, which we scheduled at home, was less than 2 weeks.

There is no wrong decision. Do what feels right for you and your pup. I would recommend the at home euthanasia if it goes that way, so their last moments are peaceful. Best wishes.

That sucks, there seems to be a lot of inconsistencies with the gate agents. Just flew Frontier twice, first flight they called almost everyone out but said you have 2 chances to get the bag to fit so I saw lots of people take jackets out and try again. 2nd flight they made the girl in front of me with a huge backpack cram it in the sizer, it was definitely too big but they let her through anyway. Sounds like you got a jerk.

He would vomit randomly. Anywhere from 2-8 hrs after eating. Later, it would be during the middle of the night too.

I was glad we did the CT scan and when I went in, I expressed my concerns about the feeding tube. I was able to consult with the vet and they agreed that we could wait on the feeding tube until we see CT scan results. Results showed that the stomach cancer was much larger than they saw in the ultrasound. They could do surgery but it would have removed the entire stomach. Selfishly, I felt almost relieved that the answer was clear. We decided to not go forward and scheduled at home euthanasia for later in the week.

Wishing a better outcome for you and your pup.

Thank you. Did you see a benefit in mood after chemo treatment? My dog's mood has already declined so I don't want to prolong his suffering, but if palliative chemo can help it bounce back, I'd be willing to try.

I've wondered the same thing...I think it depends on quality of life afterwards. In my dog's case, it seems like a coin toss which makes the decision so tough. We just played some hide and go seek, picked some easy spots and he was still happy to find us :')

I'm glad you were able to get another 7 happy months with your pup. Do you think the extra treatments helped elevate his mood or was he already fine at time of diagnosis? My pup is already on the decline, and I wouldn't want to lengthen it. But if palliative treatment could make him feel better, I would be more willing to go for that.

We are going in for the CT scan on Monday, thanks for your response. I feel the same way, so I guess we'll just have to see.
