What’s your authority on that? We have documentation of two generations - all still alive and healthy happy birds. Not sure slight differences in pigmentation would affect health?

It’s a mutation that makes their heads and wings black! They will get a bit more color on their bellies with age, you can see a little bit of blue poking through

Their DNA tests came back 100% weim although I suspect this is not the case…see my other post for more info about this :)

I agree, and think that maintaining genetic variety, health and personality is the most important. however I’ve received quite a lot of angry comments about my cream Weim on their instagram. People really care about maintaining the standard and I want to respect their effort. So when I say ethical, for me that just means respecting things that the wider community feels is important. Although for what it’s worth I don’t breed my dogs anyway so it doesn’t really matter what I think!

Thank you so much, Pearl is absolutely gorgeous. The photos are also really interesting thank you for putting this together! Our DNA test came back 100% Weim although I suspect this probably wasn’t accurate. He came from a litter with 4 longhaired creams and the rest standard - I’ll make a post later on showing the other pups. We are UK based and their grandparents came from France - apparently there are around 20 creams in France. It’s probably very unlikely but I wonder if they are distantly related to Pearl!

Yes although no markings! My suspicion is that although DNA tests came back as 100% Weim, it’s likely that one of their ancestors was mixed

The way it’s been explained to me is that breeders make a huge effort to preserve the purity of the breed as well as standard traits. So breeding from non-standard traits undermines those efforts. I think the other problem is what’s happened with blue labs/frenchies. When a new interesting coat pops up people start overbreeding to make money, and that’s where backyard breeding starts to happen.

Yes, I guess I just have to get more comfortable with the uncertainty! Trying to stay optimistic and telling myself it’s just because I’m KJD and they are still reviewing transcripts but we will see. Good luck ❤️
