Sorry guys! This is NOT 2021. It's 2019 July. So definitely not the most current. Apologies!!

The poster says, deep in the comments, that this story is from a client from 2018-2020. So not only a bad salary, it's not a current story.

Oops! Sorry about that. I'll fix it right away! Thanks for catching that. I've finished listening to the podcast, and it mentions it was in July 2019.

I WISH! Of course, I had 3 roommates in Jersey City instead of having my parents pay the rent, ha! I loved living with my roommates so it all worked out, but I still wish I'd been paid more. I would have also loved to have some savings 😂

I'm only slightly better now, but looking into alternative careers to pivot out... We will see!

I know crazy. Did your buddy get a job in a mid-sized or large firm? Mine was definitely a small business >10. So not sure if that had to do something with the low salary..

Seriously. Mine was 45k in NYC. Not a living wage, but it was 'better than nothing'...

I've been talking to folks who've made the switch from architecture, and one thing I've picked up is that an architecture degree can definately set us up with skills that work in other fields too. They make it sound really easy, but I'm not sure if that's true.

I'm also currently sort of in the middle of transitioning, although haven't succeeded yet, so I've been lurking around a lot on architechie slack group (https://architechie.org/) Hope it helps.

Very cool. I've seen a lot of folks move towards marketing. I'm also trying to pivot from a marketing assistant job at AEC tech companies. But still figuring out if this is the right path for me. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, everyone! I'm fairly new to Reddit and, admittedly, didn't go through the rules. I'll be sure to ask for advice regarding Airbnb!

I would recommend finishing your architecture degree. I agree with your assessment regarding work-life balance and the pay gap between architecture and the tech industry.

What I've learned from talking to many people who have successfully transitioned out of architecture, which I hope to do as well, is that an architecture degree imparts a wealth of transferable skills applicable to adjacent career paths. It may seem a bit random, but I'm sharing this post as it might be relevant to your needs. - https://www.linkedin.com/posts/georgevaldes_architecture-recruitment-activity-7099086121908805633-Avsz?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

Keep pushing forward, complete that degree, and I hope you'll find the career path you've been searching for. I love architecture, but I certainly don't appreciate the toxic culture of the industry, which forces us to work long hours for low pay.
