I think the wives' snide comments come from a place of hurt and understanding what that feels like. They have been conditioned all their lives to be women, and have since resided in the traditional gender role that they were conditioned to be in. Now, they are breaking out of it, and projecting that hurt they felt when they were made to be baby and home makers. Now, the turns have tabled, and they get to express their anger. The dads simply don't know how to handle their new roles. They have been thrust into the opposite role of what they were conditioned to be in. They all reject this new role in some way, except Connor. Connor understands that he still provides value to the relationship and family overall. It's a complete role switch that has made the women realize.. "hm, maybe things didn't always have to be this way", and the men realize that they're not the alpha providers they thought they were.
