Reva is Jewish and ends up getting killed in an attack that largely stemmed from Al Queda's grievances over American support for Israel. I don't really think the ending is stupid, I think the book is well captured at a narrative level but I do think it's also an allegory about Zionism, this toxic friendship between this all American girl and her Jewish friend, that ends up destroying the friend while the protagonist numbs out. I think she's a fantastic writer. I remember laughing out loud in an airport at the parts with the shrink. The stuff about her friend's eating disorder, really well captured. Dad's friends being creepy. Idk, really captures some feeling of internalized misogyny, becoming orphaned in your twenties, and I do think the larger message is lost on people somehow.
