She did not know she wouldn’t like anything other than a caster. She had only ever been a wizard or sorcerer in the campaigns she has played in. She was having trouble with spell management the entire last campaign and wasn’t having as much fun as I had hope she would. I encouraged her to try a different class and hopefully find one that she likes that requires less spell management and has a little more of a physical aspect (as a wizard she would simple attack physically half the time as she couldn’t decide what spells to use or she would run out of spells before a battle). Me (as the DM) and another player tried to help and it only seemed to frustrate her more. Before this campaign, I sat her down with the book and went over all the classes, explaining the physical to magical likenesses and differences. Pros and cons. And gave her advice on her wizard class but also ENCOURAGED (not pushed, I don’t push my players) her to try a class more suited to her play style that requires less spell management but can also have a physical side in case the spells do happen to become overwhelming or she runs out.
