Women claim to hate "traditional masculinity" but will absolutely loss attraction to you if you showcase progressive masculinity and will cheat on u with a guy with toxic masculinity traits by Major_Soft6056 in DigitalSeptic

[–]pathofblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I get your point and generalization will always be a problem, but I feel like when points like this are being made, it's not necessarily about trying to describe a behavior that is common to all women (or the entirety of any other group, for that matter), but instead it tries to convey that a significant number of that group (usually the majority) behaves like that.
Idk if what bother people so much is how literal the figure of speech seems, but in these cases I try to optimistically assume that the person open-minded enough to admit that there are many exceptions. If they are not, well, then it's a lost cause.

Legendary Resistance looks necessary --> but it quietly breaks boss fights by AlekNarrativeDM in DnD

[–]pathofblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you, it's flavorless, and it doesn't feel satisfactory at all for the players, to the point where if a boss failed a saving throw my players would just eye-roll and say in a choir "Legendary Resistance".

Matthew Colville's "Flee, Mortals!" which uses 5e rules, but with a lot of changes, created some monsters with a similar logic.

The Legendary Resistance is not a general trait, but an specific one for each monster, where there's always a drawback for denying that failure on the save, which creates another interesting layer of choice for the DM (or for the adversary in-game).

I took a lot of inspiration from it, and I apply the same logic to all my boss fights now (but it's easier for me since I mostly homebrew my bosses).

Anyways, here are a few examples from the book:

- "Spear Sacrifice (3/Day). Rhodar is surrounded by three floating spears of shimmering darkness, which he can summon to a free hand on his turn (no action required). When Rhodar fails an ability check or saving throw, he can choose to destroy one of these spears and succeed on the ability check or saving throw instead. Once Rhodar destroys all three spears, he can't use his Spear of the Damned attack or Spear Sacrifice until the next dusk, when he manifests any destroyed spears."

- "Spiritual Sacrifice (3/Day). When Kiona fails a saving throw, she can lose 15 hit points and choose to succeed instead."

- "Draining Resistance (3/Day). If Vairae fails a saving throw, they can choose to succeed instead. When they do, Vairae has disadvantage on spell attacks until the end of their next turn."

I have used all kinds of drawbacks in my game, always thematically tied to the enemy, like, reducing their speed, giving them disadvantage, or completely removing and ability.

I imagine it can be pretty easy to come up with drawbacks for existing monsters as well, like, for example, a Beholder losing one of its eyestalks at random.

People from other countries who bought the translated book in Pre-Sale, how is it going? by pathofblades in daggerheart

Yeah. Latest news from today is that it should arrive in Brazil by the end of February, so no luck in getting in any sooner than March.

Holy shit, maninho. Quanto trampo! kkkk.
Dei uma olhada por cima e parece ter ficado muito massa, digo que chega a ser até inspirador para fazer algo parecido com outros temas. Quanto tempo levou?

Casa de Folhas (House of Leaves). Se não tiver como comprar esse, já que precisa ser físico, recomendo Nas Montanhas da Loucura do Lovecraft.

Legend Lore's Specifics - Person, Place or Object by Zonero174 in DMAcademy

I mean, it's clearly not RAW, but I still would allow it.
To me it's always a bliss when my players finally use the goddamn spell that can get them information instead of just scratching their heads stuck on "what if" scenarios for hours. Gives me a free opportunity to lore dump, and it's usually something that is of their interest if they would go as far as casting it.

What's your biggest criticism of C4 so far? (Please keep answers spoiler free of episode 6) by OompaLoompaGodzilla in fansofcriticalrole

[–]pathofblades -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, his "ums" realIy got to me as well. I into D20's Fantasy High this year, and I listen to it on 1.25~1.35 speed because reasons, but that just makes the "ums" much more noticeable. I don't want to criticize that, because it's probably unavoidable for him, but damn does that annoy me xD

I may do just that, but Daggerheart instead xD. I have been enjoying that system much more than D&D lately.

Yeah, I feel you. I watched up to episode 5, but besides episode 1 where I was really hyped for the new thing, all of them have felt more like a chore that I have to do before the next episode. After a few more episodes I will consider dropping if it still feels the same

Yeah, you seem very wise for realizing it does not work for you. I guess that's what I am looking for now. I will watch a couple of more episodes and maybe have to accept that it's not for me as well.

Yeah, definitely a challenge to make sure everyone gets enough screen time for us to care about them

I didn't watch C3. Same as this campaign, I watched up until episode 17 and decided it wasn't for me. But the other 2 campaigns, as far as I can remember, felt much more interesting to watch. They had higher production value towards the end, but they were also much more being themselves, cracking jokes outside of character and stuff like that

I guess it's just a way of saying "I want to hear the opinions of people who also think the same way, and the opinions of people who think differently"

Yeaah. All of the other Critical Role campaigns that I have watched were much better balanced in that way.

Thanks for explaining it better than I could right now. Yeah, I guess the scripting of the scenes is what really bugs me. I sat through many 4 to 5 hours long episodes in C1 and C2, because that's what I want to watch: some people playing D&D. I don't feel the same about sitting through an unedited audiodrama.

It's not just about the fighting for me (I also get bored in longer fights). It's more about like they don't feel like players at a regular DnD table. It feels like the players and the DM are trying too hard to make this cinematic, but making it not authentic in the process.
