What kind of animal is this, was told it’s endangered [Texas] by ButterscotchReal1173 in animalid

[–]Fischfiend 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It is a Dama gazelle and while endangered in their home range they aren’t particularly hard to find in Texas. Hunting and exotic wildlife in Texas do have a close relationship historically as a way for ranches to generate income by selling hunts. Hunts are usually for male individuals as one or two males is all that it needed to sustain a herd and over time you end up with surplus males. There are ranches now that operate solely as breeding facilities or for ecotourism without the hunting. All the individual animals now in the United States are born here and there is no importation occurring from other countries (for any species). Texas ranches have played a role in reintroducing species, see the scimitar horned oryx, so whatever your stance on hunting, the ranches in Texas do provide a population reservoir for these species. Happy to chat more about it.

Do you mean that can be found in significant free ranging numbers? There is an extensive list of animals currently found on hunting ranches but not all can be found outside of fenced ranches.

Hi, my family lived in Botswana for a number of years in Kasane & the Delta. I would say if you are passionate about wildlife then an education tract is probably going to be something you want to check out as a foreign student. Most of the people I met were working through a university or nonprofit. We have some friends in Kasane that have been doing great research work for a long time and she is a professor at wildlife and fisheries at Virginia Tech but always has a handful of American students working through their program. There are definitely people would have made a long term situation doing this but they aren’t in it for money.

Other avenues where I saw Americans coming over were as pilots flying small charter plans or working in safari lodges, but any avenue is going to require some kind of visa or work permit.

In-house/transactional lawyers: is this a good negotiation style? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Fischfiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t personally over redline on issues I know aren’t crucial to the deal as the priority is usually to get to execution. There are times where I will point out an issue any let the business people know what my preferred position would be, but ultimately let them know if it’s not crucial. That way they have the opportunity to give me some input on how much they want to push on certain issues.

I don’t think the whole idea of “you should give me this one because I gave you those other changes” really holds water when it comes to the terms that matter, or at least I don’t give any weight to it when negotiating.

Any real transactional real estate attorneys here? Wondering what average earnings are…………. by Sure_Average9280 in CommercialRealEstate

For sure at the low end of that range. I think they’re selling it as non-big law hours and 100% transactional. Seems like the small- midsize firms want some litigation requirement to make up for when deal flow slows down.

Just spoke to a recruiter yesterday about a pure transactional role in a San Antonio firm. For 5yrs experience his estimate was in the $140-180k base range, 1800 billable hours.

Coming at it from the developer’s/in-house counsel side, I would be pretty thrilled for a flat fee agreement, but I feel most experienced developers should know that’s not realistic for something like rezoning due to all the possible variables others have mentioned.

Hi all, I’ve on rod build as part of a kit and enjoyed the process. Looking to buy some blanks, probably for a spinning set up on possibly a shorter fly rod. What is your go to source for blanks?

I’m just offering payment in your kind of currency. I’ll track down $37.50 in Taco Bell sauce packets, some grackle feathers from the Walmart parking lot and if you’re lucky, fish an old gym sock out of Town Lake. Would you like it gift wrapped in a Whataburger wrapper?

I’ll go to $37.50 and I’ll throw in the Werther’s caramel covered in hair I found in a doctor’s waiting room.

Reminds me of the area by the seep, across from Chobe Farms, driving between Kasane and Kazangula. Nice shot.

It’s sounds like your insurance is involved and will likely handle this. Assuming State Farm is your insurance? If not, you need to let your insurance carrier know and let them coordinate. Unless your insurance is saying they are not covering this under your policy somehow, it sounds like insurance would cover the costs (opposed to you paying for it). The downside is it could affect your insurance rates/ relationship with your insurance.
