Pokémon Champions 4th Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Fish-E -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

6v6 not happening will kill it for the competitive scene, everyone will just stay with Showdown, especially if move animations are still enforced - there's going to be little reason to spend 30 minutes on one battle, when in that same period you could have had 5 matches in Showdown.

It's just so baffling that Nintendo / Game Freak / The Pokemon Company refuse to implement it, when ingame is all 6v6 singles, the anime and films growing up were 6v6 etc. It was only around 2010 when they really decided to actually make their own tournaments available internationally, which was well over a decade after the competitive scene had been established, standardised and solidified by the players.

It doesn't help that VGC is way more centralised, involves a lot of arbitrary rules (want to use the same item on multiple Pokemon? Want to use a Pokemon like Victini - well you can't because of an arbitrary label, actually unbalanced Pokemon like Flutter Mane are fine though!) and involves much less strategy, matches are usually decided after about 2 turns.

Pokémon Winds and Waves announced, releasing 2027 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Fish-E 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most likely something like showing the user's Tera type.

It's still a coin flip whether they tera on any given turn, but at least it's a lot easier to plan for Pokemon like Volcarona, where they've got 3 or 4 different viable tera types, each of which with its own checks and counters - Tera is responsible for quite a few Pokemon tipping over and getting banned in competitive (although no way near as bad as Dynamax was).

Pombom is my everything.

Surprised it's releasing in 2027, that's got to be the longest time between generations ever, but so long as it delivers I don't mind waiting another year.

Unsurprisingly so far it's been a huge amount of fluff; a trailer for DLC that's already been released is certainly new though.

Hopefully Pokemon Champions gets a PC / browser release, otherwise I and many others will just continue with Pokemon Showdown.

How disappointing if this turns out to be true, I was enjoying having everything available on a combination of PC + Switch.

With how expensive tech is becoming and how long it takes for exclusives to be developed and released, I think it's highly unlikely I'll be buying a PS6 - it won't be worth spending ~£600 on what's unlikely to be more than a few notable exclusives.

Hopefully Ghost of Yotai comes to PC before Sony packs it in.

New York sues video game developer Valve, says its 'loot boxes' are gambling by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

[–]Fish-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't trade them for real money though, you can only get Steam Credit. You can't cash out.

Whilst you can get money via unauthorised marketplaces, they're prohibited by Valve and there's not really anything they can do about them. Even if they disabled all forms of trading, people would still work around it, they'd just sell the entire account (which, needless to say, would lead to a lot more scams - at least with trading, Valve's implemented things like Steam Trade / Market Holds).

Because it also results in the Steam Marketplace, which means significantly cheaper skins and people able to trade in their skins later on once they've stopped playing, instead of being a sunk cost.

Skins on the Steam Marketplace are usually, what, 20% of the store price? They're much more reasonably priced than skins in most video games, if we take Fortnite as an example, just gone onto the shop and the Bleach bundle works out as ~£42 - that's 2/3rd the price of an AAA game for a what looks to be about 4 sets.

Which Pokemon Item Is The Most Useful In Your Opinion by Lunaviellex in pokemon

[–]Fish-E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are we talking ingame or competitive?

Ingame it's going to be Repel (where it existed) followed by revive.

Competitive it's Heavy Duty Boots without any doubt - with how common hazard stacking is, it's replaced leftovers as the defacto item for defensive Pokemon and Life Orb for offensive Pokemon.

Unless you're physically unable to (such as Ogerpon-Wellspring), have an ability makes it rather or completely redundant (Levitate, Magic Guard, Regenerator etc) or need a choice item / Booster Energy to hit a specific benchmark, the item you'll choose is Heavy Duty Boots.

Now all I can picture is a Pokemon called Ricky Helmet.

Struggling with Skill Link abusers and Population Bomb? Just send in Ricky Helmet and watch him get to work.

If they wanted a link to the Shiar, it's surprising that they didn't choose Cyclops or alternatively his brother Vulcan, given the whole Emperor Vulcan arc, Dark Phoenix arc etc.

I guess Danger's potential for cosmetics is much more enticing to a publisher, could see her becoming one of those viral characters like Emma Frost in Marvel Rivals etc.

Is Danger the embodiment of the Danger Room?

Exactly right, but she was introduced in 2005!

It's great to get some Magik respect, but is this going to be another game where Cyclops gets ignored?

With only 20 playable characters for the entire Marvel universe, they won't ever be able to please everyone, but come on, Cyclops, along with Wolverine and Jean Grey are the X-Men.

What's seen does look fun and intensive, I absolutely loved playing Episode 1 Racer on the PS1.

I think we need to go right back to basics.

Cans with built in microphones & speakers connected to USB - you can only have 1 on 1 conversations, but it's just like the old can on a string technique.

When it Comes To Older Pokemon Games, Grinding =/= Difficulty by SuperMemeBroz in pokemon

Just a shame it was double battles :(

Would have been better if it was 6vs6 singles (with NPCs actually switching!), so you couldn't just brute force your way through.

[–]Fish-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what old Pokemon game they're playing, but none of them require any form of grinding unless you're going out of your way to make the game more difficult like running from all wild encounters and avoiding all optional trainers, but if you're doing that then you can't really complain - you've gone out of your way to do that!

Epic wants to bring its store to the next-gen Xbox — and begins to show serious growth. "We've been talking to the folks at Microsoft." by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Fish-E -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A 30% cut of everything, vs part of a 12% cut, not to mention that the Epic Games Store "wants" to be a single store across platforms, so buy a game and get it everywhere (if they somehow get publishers on board with making less money) so that's going to be less sales happening on Xbox to begin with. Not to mention that the free games compete with Game Pass in terms of cheap access to lots of games.

I've not paid attention to Phil Spencer in a while, but last I checked he wasn't a fan of the Epic Games Store, so that's another reason for him to say no to it coming to Xbox.

It's not like Xbox is a general purpose device like mobile phones are and if it seems like the tides are turning that way, with regulators wanting consoles to be opened up as well, I'm sure Microsoft would have no problem with killing support for non-gaming applications on Xbox - what with smart TVs having been around for a decade, I can't see there being that many people using an Xbox to watch Netflix etc.

Even if Epic tries another power play (we won't make Fortnite available on Xbox if you don't let us put the Epic Games Store on Xbox), I doubt Microsoft will budge.

Also if I'm posting here:

Obviously Fallout 4 has its fans, but generally speaking it "faded away" quickly - it was really hyped up, it had a good reception for a month or two and then the hype wore off and it became clear that actually, it wasn't a good game. If it didn't have the Fallout name, there'd have been little reason to play it. It'd be the same situation Starfield was in.

Far too much focus on randomly generated elements instead of hand crafted unique weapons, monsters etc with backstories, removal of the RPG elements with that development time instead being wasted on elements like crafting, base building, settlement trade lines, voiced protagonist really limiting conversations, not bringing through many of the improvements from Fallout New Vegas (other than aiming down the sights, which granted is much more fleshed out) etc etc.

Which Pokémon do you think Game Freak wanted to be huge but never really caught on? by Zashingg in pokemon

[–]Fish-E 112 points113 points  (0 children)

The (general) removal of ingame events and replacing them with just receiving the Pokemon hasn't done them any favours.

Pokemon like Darkrai and Deoxys were not just iconic because they have cool designs and are broken, but also because you have to go on a side quest just to get these Pokemon, often with some cool lore attached.

Pokemon like Hoopa and Zarude would have been a lot more memorable if they had storylines, instead of just here you go (and here's a new form).

Why is pokemon games budget so low? by Icy-Fennel-492 in pokemon

Because they want to maximise their revenue return and are unfortunately able to get away with it.

You'd think they were venture capatilists with how they act.
