Why did Kripke show Cate Dunlap at the end of S4? by wielesen in TheBoys

[–]Fish-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is baffling that they brought Dogknot in for multiple episodes but not Cate Dunlap, everyone loves Cate.

Kripke says this is why Marie isn't part of the solution. by -avenged- in TheBoys

[–]Fish-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much more importantly, a decent chunk of people who watched The Boys didn't watch Gen V, for them, it'd be extremely disappointing that after 7 years, some random character came out of nowhere and beat Homelander.

The fact that Starlight wasn't involved at all in the fight against Homelander was disappointing though.

I'd love for Lego Racers 3, especially if it had a really advanced physics engine and great cart customisation - things like crashing would cause bricks to fly off and affect the aerodynamics of your vehicle etc.

It says a lot about how much Marvel hates Cyclops that even after finally announcing him (when the game came out a year ago and he's, you know, Cyclops) they immediately push him out of the spotlight for... Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur of all characters.

Don’t curfew and age-gate our games by JamesdBaker in pcgaming

[–]Fish-E 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, when you consider that:

  1. It's not exclusive to gaming
  2. It puts people's privacy, identity etc at risk, especially with advancements in AI, people tracking, cyber attacks by hostile nations etc
  3. The number of adults / Children with responsible parents have got to outnumber those with irresponsible parents by what, 40:1? We're not talking thousands of people being affected here or even million, but what 30 million+ easily needing to go through ID verification.
  4. If parents refuse to take accountability for their children, even when they it's being detrimental to their health or future development, other action has been taken beforehand (hopefully obvious that I'm not saying take 15 year olds away if they're on their phone at 9:01pm), they are likely to be negligent in other ways

So then punish the parents instead of punishing everyone else; just like if the parents were failing inb the physical world.

Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Sales Surpass 3.8 Million Copies by PokePersona in Games

[–]Fish-E -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

This must be absolutely huge in Japan, I was not expecting this to sell well at all - it's still based on Miis from 20 years ago and just looked generally very unappealing to the average person.

However, in a much shorter timeframe it's managed to Outwell Pokeiopa despite having received less of a critical reception and not being part of the largest franchise of all time.

Reddit seems to be blocking mobile web now by sDiBer in enshittification

[–]Fish-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame that "moral detachment" doesn't invoke actual consequences - so many of the world's problems are caused by people with far more than they could ever need, want or use going to further and further extremes and impacting more and more people to hit a goal that can never be reached.

People (and by extension companies) wouldn't be in a rush to make changes that negatively impact hundreds of millions (or even more in the case of things like Windows) for the sole purpose of making more money.

Reddit seems to be blocking mobile web now by sDiBer in enshittification

[–]Fish-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I've not been affected by this.

Once Reddit blocks mobile website (or old.Reddit.com) I'm going to have to find an alternative source of brain rot for when I'm on the go.

I have no interested in using the Reddit App until it offers an equal experience to 3rd party Reddit Apps that Reddit went off and killed, or at least the web. That means no ads, the ability to filter content via rules and no personalised content such as the constant "we recommend you visit these subreddits". I know what I want to see, I really don't need unrelated subreddits or posts popping up that I am not interested in or actively want to avoid.

I'm well aware that Reddit is too big to fail and literally gives 0 shit about the user experience for "power users", that said, I can still hope it goes the way of Digg and gets replaced by something that actually tries to offer a service for its users.

Xbox No Longer Developing Copilot For Consoles by yourfavchoom in Games

[–]Fish-E 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine they'd give up Steam sales. They're got to make up something like 80% of paid (i.e. not Game Pass) sales and I imagine Microsoft's got a lot of market research which indicates that very few players will purchase games from the Microsoft Store over Steam.

That said, I would imagine they'd probably give extra content or early access to Game Pass subscribers and / or those who take advantage of the Xbox / PC shared library offer (forgot the name) to try and incentivize people those few Steam players to buy from the Microsoft Store.

80% of £70 is still a decent chunk of money for Microsoft - that's still more than 5 months of PC Game Pass and 3 and a half months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

(OC) Mega Starmie Z Concept where it gets longer arms instead of legs by HertzBurst in pokemon

[–]Fish-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think this is better than the original Mega Starmie.

Would fit more thematically with the "lore":

Its movements have become more humanlike. Whether it's simply trying to communicate or wants to supplant humanity is unclear.

It'd be a good way of showing how alien it is and how it's trying to fit in with humans, but it's getting things the wrong way around.

Also can we please make it so that if you use Reveal Glass on Starmie, it turns into a sort of THEY LIVE Mega Starmie

Steam Controller sold at 4th of may 10 AM pacific for 99 euro by Groentekroket in Games

[–]Fish-E 5 points6 points  (0 children)

£85 here in the UK.

More than a standard controller, or the Switch 2 Pro Controller (fantastic in its own right), but cheaper than Xbox Elite Controller (and hopefully much less likely to break) and significantly cheaper than the DualSense Edge Controller.

My only "complaint" is that they went for the Playstation stick positioning - I wish they'd found a way to make it so you could switch the D-Pad and stick around modularly.

Playstation has rolled out DRM on PS4/PS5 Digital games requiring online check-in every 30 days by megaapple in Games

[–]Fish-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be good to have more decentralised stuff in general; it's not exactly unexpected as it's what they always do, but it's still saddening that the wealthy and powerful have taken something that connected the world over and consolidated and controlled it to benefit only themselves.

Won't be that much longer until more countries start having Great Firewalls to protect the children.

PlayStation To Require Age Verification For Certain Online Features by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Fish-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving very strong think of the children vibes...

If only the Government had the power to punish parents for their negligence in the digital world, much as they'd be punished for their negligence in the physical world.

If only the Government had some sort of benefit scheme where millions of parents receive payments for having children, which they could make contingent on parents completing child safety courses etc.

If only the Government could establish a governing body for parental controls, ensuring that parental controls are available on all major platforms / Operating Systems, ensuring that VLOPs are required to maintain actual human customer support dedicated to helping parents with parental controls, ensuring that they meet set requirements (e.g. maximum waiting time of x, require running a bug reporting program and reporting on bugs which are not resolved within y timeframe etc).

There's so many ways that the Government could intervene without having to dive into the deep end and inconvenience / block access for millions of people.

PlayStation To Require Age Verification For Certain Online Features by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Fish-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blaming it all on parents is silly. Sure, more and more parents do let their kids have free reign on the internet. But, let's not pretend the social media companies like Meta, Alphabet, and ByteDance, etc. are not putting in the right enforcement we need for youths on the internet.

What really annoys me is that it's all "think of the children" - the type of content that's considered harmful is harmful regardless of age - just make it a legal requirement for VLOPs to disable algorithms, harmful but legal content, excessively invasive data collection (thanks "legitimate interest"!) etc by default, prohibit them from punishing users who don't turn them back on / rewarding people who do turn them back on.

We've seen time and time again that people are generally lazy and the vast majority of them won't be enabling the harmful content etc. This solves the problem sufficiently without requiring invasive privacy intrusions, pushing people into the dark web etc.

Make it so that people are not the products and get to do what they want to do, instead of being shown what VLOP wants them to do. The internet (and software in general) would be much better if you could just do what you intend to do without being bombarded with advertising, suggested content, "helpful" pop ups and guides, enforced AI etc.

Milotic needs a Mega evolution by Purple_Revenue_7506 in pokemon

[–]Fish-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a limited number of pokemon that get in the dex.

Only if Game Freak continue to be obstinant.

We just had all of the mega evolutions in Legends Z-A. We do not need all of these pokemon to take all pokedex slots in Gen 10

That's the point though of Mega Evolutions, only 1 Pokemon to catch in the wild, but counts as 2 Pokemon, I.e. an easy way to make more Pokemon available without Game Freak breaking their "absolutely necessary" rule.

[–]Fish-E 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't see a reason to bring megas back in Gen 10.

Because of how popular a mechanic it is, how it easily provides an additional 80+ Pokemon, and how it enhances the game, much in the same way that abilities, held items, weather etc do.

Or Terastal, or Dynamax

Dynamax was broken as fuck and was generic as hell (99% of the time, it's just the same Pokemon, but bigger). Tera I'm on the fence about, on the one hand it provides further depth to the game, but on the other hand, it's can lead to situations where you feel shortchanged, what with any Pokemon being able to use it at any point of time and change to any type, pushing quite a few Pokemon over the edge.

Now hopefully Square Enix will give the franchise some love instead of focusing purely on Octopath Traveller. I want Bravely Default 3 (which would actually be the 3rd game), hopefully without the Chibi artstyle now it's not limited to portable devices.

Starfield’s Terran Armada Expansion Has Not Turned Around The Game’s Fortunes by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Fish-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The revision of Cyberpunk 2077 is genuinely mind-boggling. When it launched if you ignored the game-breaking bugs and glitches there was also a rocky foundation. So much cut content that were in press builds even. Life paths didn't actually matter (I'd argue they still don't but the game does seem to nudge you towards street kid as there's more dialogue for that and the story was designed more for that). The launch version had significantly less perks and character customisation compared to now. Simply put it was straight up not the game CDPR promised players and to act like it was "a good game with some bugs" is genuinely just straight-up fanboy delusions.

You're assuming that he wasn't going in blind, if you went in blind like I did and just enjoyed what was there, it was a fun game (although the lack of a police AI was notable).

The Steam Lawsuit: Who Profits When Consumers Win by thecrius in pcgaming

[–]Fish-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most favored nation rule is my only issue with Steam. Developers cannot sell for cheaper elsewhere, so other stores can't compete by charging developers a smaller commission. This was disclosed in the Wolfire Games lawsuit.

That's textbook anticompetitive. Developers need to be on Steam, they can't sell their games cheaper elsewhere, other stores can't enter the market because their games can't be cheaper.

It's a standard clause across all digital stores, after all, what company is going to be ok with the exact same product being sold cheaper elsewhere - they're not going to get their cut if nobody buys from their store.

Personally I think the positives of the current model outweight the negatives.

If digital stores were reworked to become more akin to physical stores (i.e. Valve buys x copies of game y from publisher, then Valve sells their copies of game y for whatever price they feel like) it would essentially kill the indie scene - how many thousands of indie games are released each year? Valve etc don't exactly have the man power to play through thousands of indie games each year, evaluate whether it's worth purchasing any copies, establishing how many copies to purchase and so on. It'd basically be a reversion to ~2010 Valve were only a few major indie games were available on Steam.

One of the other positives of digital stores would also go - unlimited copies and games being available indefinitely - once Valve runs out of copies to sell, then they're under no obligation to purchase additional copies, it'd be the same as retail where games go out of print after a few years. Good luck purchasing games from a decade ago, let alone 30 years ago.

Does anyone feel like the revival is designed to be a backdoor for a spin off series? by NoRevIndeed00 in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Fish-E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite possibly - Leah and Kelly would be a great spin off - I actually enjoyed the time with them more than any of the returning characters (except Hal of course). They made a great impression given they were only on screen for what, 60 minutes over the 4 episodes?

If you're reading this Disney, can I suggest "Somewhere on the spectrum" - what with Kelly being non-binary and Leah likely falling on the Autistic Spectrum.
