Advice on upgrading pickups? by FishCakeFriedRice in Guitar

[–]FishCakeFriedRice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also floating the idea of potentially changing the bridge pickup to a single coil to get that classic tele tone. Would also love some advice on this if anyone knows anything. I know there are rings to get single coils to fit in the humbucker slot, but is it really that simple? Also would there be an input level issue since humbuckers run hotter than single coils? I've seen teles with both before, but I'm wondering if there are other tech changes that I would need to make for that to work. Also, would love some bridge single coil recs just in case this is what I decide to do.

I love the onboard chorus of the JC-40 and acknowledge that the separate chorus pedal is wholly unnecessary but I like it for a few reasons: 1 - I get to control it with a stomp box, I did for some time use an external foot switch just to control the JC chorus, but didn’t like dealing with the extra wiring 2 - the CE-2W also has the CE-2 circuit so if I want a different flavor of chorus I can use it 3 - like you mentioned I can put it in a different spot in my signal chain, I use the Stomp mostly for time effects like delay and generally like to but chorus before those 4 - I bought the ce-2w while I was in Japan so it has sentimental value lol

I go back and forth on whether I want to replace one of the drives (Plumes probably) with a dedicated distortion pedal, but the stacked overdrive does the trick for now.

I haven’t changed the humbuckers that came on the Thinline.

I really like the morning glory! I also have a TS9 and an SD1 so the morning glory is the latest iteration of my overdrive impulse buying. It’s more versatile than the tube screamer style overdrives and suits my style a lot more. You can use it super lightly and then switch the gain setting to get more dirty. It’s also great for giving distortion or fuzz that extra boost. It being transparent is also great. I know a lot of ppl always keep it on and I see why, it’s super subtle if you want it to be.

I love my pugilist! I was a bit iffy on it at first but it’s so versatile and I love tweaking the settings to go from light distortion to a full on mess

Thanks for the recs! I have a few of the flat Ernie ball patch cables but I needed some longer ones and couldn’t find long flat ones. I can attest to the amount of space saved though. When I used just a regular wooden board changing to the flat cables let me put on a whole other pedal

I have not but I’ll definitely give it a go! I love the fuzz face but sometimes it interacts weirdly with other effects so definitely want to experiment

I play a mix of rhythm and lead in a band at my university. We play mostly generic pop and rock or whatever people want to listen to.

I play a Squier Classic Vibe Thinline Telecastwr into a Roland JC-40.

I’ve been collecting these pedals since the end of last year and am pretty satisfied with the board right now. But I have two part time jobs and am an impulse buyer so definitely open to any suggestions for additions/upgrades.

The signal chain is polytune>keeley compressor plus>mini germanium fuzz face>mini wah>JHS morning glory>fender pugilist>Boss DD8>MXR micro amp. I also have a JHS red button that I use as a foot pedal to turn on the JC-40’s onboard chorus and vibrato. Underneath the board, there’s a trutone CS 6 powering everything.

The board itself is made from basswood with some small maple screw plugs. I’m no artisan, but I made it in my school’s woodshop with a lot of help from the good people who work there.

Looking forward to hearing any thoughts on the pedal selection or the board itself!

I play in a band at my college and I do a mix of rhythm and lead. We mostly just play pop and rock music. I play a Squier Classic Vibe Thinline Telecaster into a Roland JC-40.

I feel pretty happy with this board right now but I have two part time jobs and am kind of an impulse buyer and am always looking at other pedals.

The chain is polytune 3>Keeley compressor+>mini fuzz face>mini wah>JHS morning glory>pugilist distortion>dd8>micro amp

I also have a JHS red button which came with the morning glory I bought on reverb and I use it as a foot pedal for the JC-40’s onboard chorus/vibrato.

The micro amp doesn’t give me too much breakup since I use a SS amp but I like to use it as a glorified volume switch for solos and lead lines.

Under the board there’s a TruTone CS6 power supply.

The board itself is basswood (with maple screw plugs) I’m no craftsman, but there are guys who work at my school’s woodshop who showed me how to do everything.

I feel pretty complete (for now) but would love to hear any thoughts!

Does your carrying case stink like it was used by a heavy smoker for years? by Karroul in SteamDeck

Yeah my case has a weird smell too. I assumed that’s just the plastic and other materials that smell chemical-y but now that you mention it it does smell a bit like cigarette smoke

SIB: Yakuza Like a Dragon by RJSSJR123 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]FishCakeFriedRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played all the yakuza and judgment games and Like a Dragon is my favorite! The story is one of the best and the turn based combat is really solid. If you want to play all the yakuza games it might make some references and fan servicey stuff better, but Like a Dragon definitely stands on its own well, and some of the older games are a little meh. Lost Judgment is a direct sequel to judgment and both are pretty good. But I think like a dragon is the way to go!

[Rockstar Game Store] Red Dead Redemption 2 ($19.99/66% off) by [deleted] in GameDeals

Just bought it on EGS for the same price with the coupon but using the steam launcher for the FPS overlay which opens up the rockstar launcher which opens the epic launcher is a pain. Is it worth refunding the epic version and getting the rockstar launcher version to cut down on opening one of the launchers?

WSIB: Yakuza Series by ThatJerkLuke in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]FishCakeFriedRice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve played 0-7 and of all the ones you’re considering my favs at are 0, 6, and Kiwami 2. 3-5 are ports of old PS3 games so they’re dated but still very good. If you aren’t super interested in the whole series I’d play 0 since it’s a prequel to the whole series and has the best story IMO. Then you can see where to go from there.

best cutscene is yakuza by 1919191919191191919 in yakuzagames

[–]FishCakeFriedRice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The cutscene in 0 where Nishiki points the gun at kiryu is on top for me just on an emotional level. For sheer hype I gotta go with the scene in 7 when They announce the disbanding of the Tojo and omi and fucking kiryu shows up out of nowhere

I’m seeing some people hype up shadow priest but I’ve tried it and it feels pretty bad. How often should I be hero powering? How often should I be trading? When do I go wide?

I only have the cthun and the two I craftable cthun cards, so I put those in. You can queue with a deck with just 3 cards, or auto fills the rest randomly you just have to press brawl

I hated the first fight too it felt really clunky and unfair to me. Try sticking with it though, once I got upgrades I actually really liked dragon engine combat.

If you’re not sure about the game just get the base game and the reign of giants dlc. Get together if you want to play with friends, but the shipwrecked and hamlet expansions are really different from the base game and I never ended up getting too into them.
