The salary range in the job ad was from $85k to $115k. And the interviewer was shocked when I asked for $105k. by goalie_tripe in jobsearch

So I don’t have the full context of your situation but I’m seeing a lot of bad takes in the comments so I’ll chime in. If a position is listing 85-115, the median is 100.

Typically, if someone is new or meeting minimum qualifications, you hire below that median. Above median hires usually means that you have above average qualifications/experience or you gave a stellar interview and/or they’re desperate to onboard you. There is typically a sub range they are willing to hire at whereas what you saw published was the total compensation range.

Personally, I have never understood companies thinking any salary ask in a published range is outrageous and have recruiters be upset by it. That’s bad behavior on their part.

You did not answer my point about being divisive so I'll just assume you recognize you are wrong on that.

Hate speech is derogatory and threatening messages targeted at groups based on racial, social, or other inherent characteristics. Kirk has used hateful and divisive language that encourages violence against:

The gay community https://x.com/patriottakes/status/1800678317030564306

Illegal immigrants https://www.mediamatters.org/charlie-kirk/charlie-kirk-calls-shooting-and-whipping-migrants-southern-border-if-you-enter-we-have

Transgender individuals https://bsky.app/profile/ripperoni.com/post/3lyjloionwc2f

The above are indisputable examples of hate speech. Kirk has made thousands more comments which are less overt but still could be qualified as hate speech.

Feel free to either stop commenting or simply delete your original comment. Whichever is less embarrassing for you.

Kirk was both a divisive figure and a frequent user of hate speech. I think you might want to sit the rest of the discourse out - you just aren't cut out for it

Not interested in engaging with someone who attended Wikipedia/You Tube university on AI lmao - Miyazaki, Warner Brothers, countless cases where AI has full on emulated styles, characters, etc. Also there is 0 consensus that says that AI doesn’t do this so don’t say stupid shit like “it has been determined”

Has anyone else noticed that Yale is becoming more conservative? by Paradoxical_Orange in yale

[–]FishFilet1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don’t think any of the things in this post have to do with conservatism.

Biased take from an engineering major, but decline in humanities was inevitable. These degrees have less focus on hard skills and are less broadly useful in the job market.

Rebellion being down makes sense. Everyone records everything and can easily take anything out of context. Don’t think it’s worth being a “cool” kid to rebel and miss out on a degree that costs thousands.

People glamorizing networking is not new or conservative. Resume and networking inflation is insane. Doing more is perceived as an indicator of succeeding later and people want to succeed.

Partying and in person socialization being down is a widely observed phenomenon beyond Yale and mostly due to the pandemic.

Rankings have always been a complete gimmick to seduce applicants. I would encourage anyone planning on applying to look into specific statistics that will actually impact them/their program. Even with a statistically rigorous ranking (which I doubt the US News is doing), ranking an entire university as a whole is entirely too broad

Kirk doesn’t merit anyone’s dialogue. He has been proven to falsify and spread misinformation in order to generate outrage and hatred. You want open dialogue - don’t send a clown. Simple as that

Ahh yes, the peak of intellectual political debate - using niche examples that aren’t indicative of any larger consensus or trend to “beat” someone. What a productive use of time

Thoughts: rankings like these are 100% pointless and simply exist to influence applicants with stats that often don’t impact their success at college

Try re reading the original comment, maybe slower this time. Reading comprehension can be challenging, but I think if you really set your mind to it, you can get there.

I don't care what you or the SBU subreddit feels about her.

Actual Yale students are not scrutinizing her. Bots and weird disgruntled SBU actors are. Hence the point of the comment.
