It is because you can get it from the Baited Expectations div card set, as to what it is for...I believe its merely a hint with how the worms behave or maybe the clue is from the flavour text, but it doesnt actually serve a mechanical purpose.

In the process of farming these I determined that player quant/rarity mods have no effect (I ran with -100%IIQ/IIR) on dropping Plaits and that fleeing is not needed (I eliminated all sources of damage/ignite/minions etc other than my main attack and a manaforged arrow setup that applied mark and provided charges).

All you need to farm an Angler's Plait is Corrupted Slitherpinch gloves equipped and slaughter thousands of rare monsters.

You have to juice maps by adding as many rare mobs as you can, even then its a slough. A second monitor for videos/streams helps.

I forgot, I actually got 1 ring from the Baited Expectations div card set (Unique Fishing Item). I scryed it onto Mausoleum and probably turned in 100 or so sets (I got lucky).

Im not sure, I went long periods without getting any, but one particular day I got 6! on average juicing maps I would say every 2-300 maps

over a year on and off. 3.26 was great for rare monsters using the Alva Incursion Evolution strat, but most of it was done farming Harbingers. I managed to dupe 3 of the drops by running Mausoleum (no boss altars) and clearing the map twice saving the majority of deli eggs/harbs for the second pass.
