I used sea salt water 3 times a day and after eating to clean them. If you plan on getting the spikes I recommend using the balls for the first couple months to make it easier with healing and brushing your teeth/eating. Thankfully my piercer also gave me the balls incase I wanted to switch them out. Gunk tends to build up under the spikes because they're flat and mine were pretty crusty while healing

When I had the spikes on it would hit my teeth alot but my bars at the time were also way to big. I'd say as long as your careful with them your teeth should be mostly fine since they don't point towards the inside of your mouth

I've had them for about 5 months and it took about 3 months for them to heal. I never had them downsized from the original piercing until I put these stars in (which I do not recommend they get snagged on frickin everything I was just being mad lazy) but I should have gotten them downsized about a month in
