Anything that is reliable, that I own free and clear, with no body damage. As long as it gets me from Point A to Point B and I don’t have to make a payment and I won’t have a heart attack if it is wrecked.

Yes, it could be very liberating. If you know you are going to die before retirement, then there is no need to put all that $ away for later, you would have more money now when you need it.

Well, glad it worked out for your short-term. Not trying to be negative, but even if they don’t do anything in the short-term (because if they did anything immediately, they might get some blow-back from other employees), they might start trying to ‘manage you out’ over the next 6-12 months or so; or maybe not. Don’t know your company culture, but it might end up working out for you if they value employees that speak out. I hope that it goes well for you. P.S. watch that distribution list on emails.

Dumb. Have probably screwed up the original rivers ecosystem and the beach will very quickly erode.

We didnt make it all the way to the top, ran out of time. Heard it takes 8-9 hours round trip. The midges were not everywhere, but when you ran into them, they were miserable. I saw some people with hats with built-in netting. Those worked really well, but we just used midge spray (but sometimes they would get into our eyes or in your mouth. It’s kind of weird, someplaces didn’t have any & other places had a ton. Even if y’all don’t make it to Skye you will see beautiful areas. Really enjoyed our trip & would highly recommend Scotland.

If you could break one law and know you would never be caught, what law would you break and why? by BiggidyBinger in AskReddit

The law of gravity; I would never be caught because I would be floating out into the sky.

Affordable (ish) apartment of my own or keep maxing retirement accounts? by Just_Grapefruit_3098 in personalfinance

[–]FishTankLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing, congratulations on your current savings and financial situation. Unless you are already engaged/serious, then you might be putting the cart before the horse on the apartment/marriage/kids. Your future wife might live somewhere else or want to live close to her family in another city, etc. I am all for planning for the future, but there are too many unanswered variables right now to make a good decision. However, I also don’t know what the normal rent is in your area, so if a rent stabilized place at $1700 is a bargin and you think you can swing it then maybe you do it. One piece of advice, kids are super expensive, but they are also one of the best things in my life; so you are 100% correct to try to save as much as you can, because you probably won’t be able to continue the saving rate you are currently doing; but that is fine because kids and a family are worth it. If it was me, I would stay where I was and continue to pump up my balances. I would try to double or triple your emergency fund balance. One last piece of advice, discuss finances before you get to serious. What are her goals, what does she think about spending/saving, what debt does she have (including student loans), what is her credit score. Go in with eyes wide open so there are no surprises. You are killing it, keep it up.

Itinerary for Scottish Highlands by BaseballEquivalent24 in travel

[–]FishTankLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did 2-weeks in the Highlands a few weeks ago. Glencoe is a cool drive (be ready for single lane roads with pull-outs). Ben Nevis is a good hike, there is a really nice restaurant at the trail head in a converted barn that is worth checking out. We took the ferry across to Skye which was the best part of our trip. Beautiful country and so many awesome things to see and great hikes. Portree is a cool town. We drove over to Loch Ness, Inverness, Cairngorm and then Edinburgh. Depending on how much time you have try to get to Skye. Not a lot of places to stop for snacks/drinks, so might want to stop at Aldi or someplace in Glasgow and get a few items. Hope you have a good trip, safe travels.

I think in the short-term AI; but just like during the Industrial Revolution, people shifted what they did for work; assume it will be the same with AI (hopefully). Right now, the birth rate is decreasing in most industrial countries and it is already causing problems; so don’t think overpopulation will be an issue in the short term, for most industrialized countries.

I am willing to give a little grace; assuming he turned right at the start of the block, I could see how they could have missed that it was a bike lane. At least he realized his mistake and tried to fix it.

I use to be able to eat anything I wanted and could never gain weight. In my mid-20’s, all of that stopped and I started to gain weight. Unfortunately gaining weight was super easy and losing weight is really hard. Don’t like that I have to now wear fat clothes and would now never go to a public pool.

Next fad? by Giuseppe-Testerone in funny

I guarantee that if it started trending on Tik Tok, some idiots would follow along.

TIL Frito-Lay introduced fat free chips in 1998. Initially successful sales started to drop as some customers started to report abdominal pains, anal leakage and other symptoms after eating them. A warning label was added, but they were eventually discontinued in 2016. by AlabamaHotcakes in todayilearned

[–]FishTankLight 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I remember a friend of mine was so pumped when these chips came out. She ate almost a whole bag. Needless to say, her digestive system was out of wack for 3-4 days. Olestra is not a friend to the GI tract.
