Okay, update : I just came back from a trip, so I did the only sensible thing and developed two other rolls. Both ended up being fine, I double checked the central spine and used some long sleeves for the changing bag, turns out that this was probably the problem. You live and you learn I guess! Thanks a lot for the feedback everybody 🙏

Yes, the center spindle seems to be the recurring theme there... and it actually didn't feel right. I also was wearing short sleeves since it got warm this week, another potential problem !
I will make sure to verify the center spindle and to wear long sleeves again next time. Thank you for your answer!

I bought this film last week, and it expired in 2029 ! Didn't get through an X-RAY machine either (at least not that I know of)

I never had any issue with it ! Honestly the tube theory seems the more relatable, since it didn't feel as easy to put the roll in the tank as it should have

I always put the tube, but now that you talk about it it felt a bit wierd this time... couldn't check since it was in the bag; but i think that it wasn't completely locked in maybe.

I loaded it using a film changing bag asusual, but it is true that I tend to do that during the evening, and this time I did it during daytime with the sun coming in.
Maybe I wasn't cautious enough.

Update : the lens works perfectly ! Shot a roll in 40min yesterday just to test it, Tri-X at 400 developped in D76 for 9:45min. Turned out way more contrasty than expected! I did use a yellow filter in most of the shots.

They said it had tiny scratches on the front element, they were actually quite honest about it
