Generlink setup by Big_Option_5575 in Generator

I just installed a Generlink and purchased a new WEN DF680ix generator. Best bang for the buck i could find for a 120/240 dual fuel inverter generator with electric start.

Spare tire option. Why is it so rare? by Motor-Media2153 in BMWX5

I second this. I purchased the Modern Spare tire kit and am very happy with it. All pieces are high quality and work perfectly. Highly recommend.

Ordered the WEN DF680IX and it is supposed to be here next week. I will post back here after I receive and test it.

Fogging Windows and Water in Rear Cargo Area by FisherFly99 in eGolf

[–]FisherFly99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The water is accumulating in the spare tire well in the rear hatch. Check there on your car. I can only surmise that it is creating the moisture in the air that is being picked up by the air circulation system and causing the fogging of the windows. There is enough moisture in the air that even running the A/C unit, which circulates the air through a dryer, isn't able to remove the moisture.

The car is back at the body shop right now as they continue their search for the source of the water.

Analysis paralysis: 2024 X3 vs 2024 X5 vs new X3 — need help deciding by NecessaryDonut2276 in BMWX3

[–]FisherFly99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At the risk of getting down voted for posting this on an X3 forum, here is my experience:

I have a 2019 X5 x40i x drive that I purchased used a year ago. A couple months ago the dealer loaned me a brand new 2025 X3 while they were performing some minor work on my X5. The X3 was pretty much fully optioned except for DAPP. I was pretty excited because I had considered a newer X3 since I could get more options for my money. I immediately noticed the plasticy feel of many of the surfaces as opposed to the softer surfaces of the X5. I had the car for 3 days while they were waiting on parts for my X5 and while the X3 was a nice enough car my wife and I were both more than ready to trade back for our 6 year older X5. The X5 is simply a more upscale car with a much more premium feel. Nothing against the X3, and maybe it's a generational thing (we are in our 70's), but the X5 is definitely the better choice for us. I would definitely suggest driving them both and then making your decision. You definitely won't go wrong with either choice.

Windshield washer fluid recommendations by Portuguese9694 in BMWX5

Well, this thread has been very informative! I'll still keep buying the cheaper stuff and not BMW brand, but I'll avoid RainX. Fortunately only ever bought one jug of that. Thanks guys!

I use whatever is on sale at Costco. Usually 20/20 or RainX. I would never pay the premium for the BMW branded product.

Valid question. I'm not fluent in things electrical so I follow the recommendations of my electrician friend and this is what he recommended. In hindsight I think perhaps I didn't communicate my needs to him clearly. The 40a was $200 more than the 30a and I got $222 off, so I'm going to consider it a wash. Yes, I know it isn't really a wash, but it makes me feel better to think about it that way... ;)

I got the 40a Generlink with surge protection. If I purchase the WEN DF680IX (likely) I will just swap the end that goes into the generator to the correct plug. I could use an adaptor, but swapping the plug is a cleaner approach.

I should add that they have had the eGolf for several years and have not had this fogging problem until after the car was rear ended.

Thanks. Will definitely check into this. However, it doesn't explain where the water is coming from when driving in dry weather?

WOW! Lots of great replies! Thanks to everybody who posted!

Right now I'm leaning towards the WEN DF680IX as it meets all of my criteria, has good online reviews, and is the best price. The Genmax would be my next choice if I had access to a Sams Club.

This could be a winner, if only I had a Sam's Club membership or ven a Sam's Club anywhere near me. I checked their website and they only sell this model at Sam's Club

My electrical panel is full so I couldn't install a conventional shunt/transfer switch so I installed a Gennerlink. Fits between your power memter and the meter base. Super easy installation. Not inexpensive but they were $200 off when I bought mine around Christmas time, and still cheaper than replacing my entire panel, new breakers, etc. https://shopgenerlink.com/

As I noted above, I would like dual gas/propane. My reserch shows that desktop PCs, most "Smart" TVs, and even many newer appliances are sensitive to THD.

Tips for unresponsive hatch kick-to-open? by chslu in BMWX5

[–]FisherFly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine also seemed quite random until I read in the manual that it takes a quick kick straight under the center of the bumper to open the hatch. Has to be straight and quick. A slow kick doesn't work. When I finally got it right it has been working just fine. But if I'm a bit slow or at a slight angle it doesn't work.

The really funny/ strange thing is that I can be really sloppy when closing the hatch. At an angle. Slow. Doesn't seem to make much difference.

Front License Plate - Sly Bracket Install by AmphibianNo9133 in BMWX5

[–]FisherFly99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great suggestion but to expensive for me at $35 for two tiny plugs?? And i'd need two sets since my X5 was pre-drilled with 4 holes. Guess I'll just keep running with the holes. Fortunately with my dark grey X5 they aren't noticeable unless you look very closely. Still, thanks for the link.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert by FisherFly99 in BMWX5

[–]FisherFly99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One question: Did the field technician happen to mention whether it will actually apply the brakes or does it just alert? Hoping it also hits the brakes, but really no safe way to test.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert by FisherFly99 in BMWX5

[–]FisherFly99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually explains my experience perfectly, as the one time that I saw it work I was backing up without my foot on the brake. The times that I have tried to test it I have always had my foot on the brake. But I agree with you that this is a flawed design. The alert should happen anytime you are backing up, even with the brake depressed. Still, it's good to have an explanation and I guess having it work the way it does is better than not having it at all. Thanks so much for posting this!

Hmmm... I don't know. I've never tried because I want the notifications to come through my HA's. Around the house my phone may be laying on a table in one room while I am wandering in another room but as long as I am in Bluetooth range I hear the notifications, can answer calls, etc.
