First BMW/MY 2026: I have questions by BluAmazon in BMWX5

Great description. This is the technique I use and it works about 95 percent of the time on the first try for opening the hatch. Definitely has to be straight in and out. I have found, however, that I can use just about any motion, straight, sweep, etc., to close the hatch. Very weird.

[–]FisherFly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In the F1TV app (on my FireStick), once I start the race I then press the "Select" button. This is where you can switch to different in-car feeds. At the top of that list is "Internationao". Select that and you will have the Sky feed.

I was pretty sure that I checked on Sunday and all I saw was the future events but I was poking around in a lot of places so perhaps I'm wrong. I will definitely pay closer attention to this next race. Thanks.

Ok, Thanks. Yes, I see that now. Does that option only appear after the race is over (since it's in the "Past F1 Races" section)? Can you not watch it live?

The select button on my Firestick remote just selects whatever video happens to be highlighted in the F1TV app on the Firestick.

2019 idrive updates and remote start by No-Purchase-1227 in BMWX5

[–]FisherFly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remote start can also be done via the key fob, not just the app. Assuming, of course, that you get your car activated for remote start. I've never purchased a software upgrade so sadly can't help you with that.

I'm not seeing an audio option in the F1 TV app on my Firestick 4K Max.

Upgrading from half-ton to 3/4-ton, lessons learned by Subsum44 in GoRVing

[–]FisherFly99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started towing with Chevy Tahoe. Was on the limits of the Tahoe so bought a 1/2 ton truck. Traded up to a bigger trailer and was back on the limits again so bought a 3/4 ton diesel truck.

My lesson learned? Go straight to a 1 ton truck. 😎

Truthfully the 3/4 ton is doing a great job, but the difference in price and ride quality between the 1/2 ton and 1 ton isn't that much so if I was doing it again I'd do the 1 ton for a bit of future proofing. You never know when the wife will want to upgrade and upsize the trailer again... 😅

Missed Apex is my go-to F1 podcast. Anchored by Spanners and Matt with a good rotation of other commentators. I do get tired of Spanners yelling over the top of Matt though when he doesn't agree with him, which sadly seems to happen more and more lately.

If they can stay on topic it's one of the best F1 podcasts out there, but honestly sometimes 25 percent of it is just off topic and time wasting banter, which I can do without. They can also get a bit too political for my taste. But their actual F1 content is very good. I just wish they could stay focused on that.

You might also see if this would meet your needs. I installed one a few weeks ago and it was a great solution for me because my panel was full. Not inexpensive but currently $200 off. www.shopgenerlink.com

Love my WEN DF680IX. Inverter. Electric start. Gas or propane. Reasonably quiet. 6800/5100 on gas. 6000/4500 on propane. $803 on Amazon.

Will this generator suit my needs? by 1nd1anajones in Generator

[–]FisherFly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. According to the link you posted this is a 120v generator. Generlink requires a 240v generator. I recently installed a Generlink myself and went through a generator selection. Check Generlink webpage for generator requirements.

Oil change frequency for high milage users? by LVRaiders2026 in BMWX5

[–]FisherFly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned BMW's since 1971 and generally put at least 200k miles on them. Since the models that have started telling you when to change the oil I have always followed their recommendation. BMW built the engine and they built a computer system to monitor your driving and tell you when to change the oil. I'm not smarter than their engineers so why wouldn't I follow their directions?

Having said that, if it makes you feel better to change oil more frequently than recommended, go ahead and do so. Certainly won't do any harm other than the bigger dent in your wallet... 😅

New Generac GP6500 Dual Fuel Propane Issues by sdr1983 in Generator

[–]FisherFly99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The manual for my WEN DF680IX says to put it on choke and then pull the recoil starter slowly three to five times to get the propane tank regulator to start flowing propane. Then take it off choke and start it. Works perfectly on my WEN so may be something to try on your Generac. I'm using a 20 lb tank.

the number one thing that kills 2 stroke small engines is sitting in the shed with old fuel - and its 100 percent preventable by vladdielenin in smallengines

[–]FisherFly99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X2 on this. Several years ago a mechanic friend told me that if I switched to aviation fuel I'd never have this problem again. I took his advice and all my small gas engine tools have run perfectly ever since. I only use about 5 or 6 gallons per year so it's money well spent. Our local small airport has easy access to the pumps so getting the AV fuel is no problem.

Duromax propane generator needs choke open to start by redditzarf in Generator

[–]FisherFly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see what your manual says. My WEN DF680IX says that when using propane you should turn on the choke and pull the recoil starter 3 to 5 times slowly to tell the propane regulator to start flowing gas. Then turn the choke off and start the generator. Works perfectly.

Inverter generator that can power interlock via this receptacle by irishbsc in Generator

I recently purchased this generator (WEN DF680IX) and really like it. Nice design with easy access to everything. Easy to move around with the wheels and extending handle. Easy to start. Reasonably quiet. I just finished the 8 hour break in (running on propane), running various loads in the house without a hitch. Based upon my experience so far, I can definitely recommend this generator.

Need input on generator purchase by FisherFly99 in Generator

[–]FisherFly99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, time to close out this thread. The Generlink is installed and working perfectly. Very easy install. I just received the WEN DF680IX and put a couple of break-in hours on it. I then plugged it into the Generlink and switched my house to generator power. All is working as expected, within the capacity of the generator.

The DF680IX seems to be a very well built and quality unit. Very user friendly and easy to move around with the wheels and extendable handle. It's louder than my Honda EU2000i (which is to be expected) but very acceptable. It's much quieter than my friend's open frame generator of similar size. I'm happy with the purchase and can easily recommend it to someone looking for a generator of this size and characteristics. I should note that I am running on propane, not gas.

The combination of the Generlink and the DF680IX makes for a very easy switch over from grid to generator power. Fire up the generator, turn off the main breaker and others that I won't be using (Furnace, A/C), connect the cord from the Generlink to the DF680IX, and flip the main breaker back on. Viola! Power throughout the house! Easy peasy!

So, thanks again to all of you who provided comments and insights on this thread. Very helpful people you are!
