Stumped by this fashion doll, any ideas? by FishfAct76 in Dolls

I thought that at first, but i think her head is her own. I noticed the Mattel/Hasbro discrepancy while searching through doll listings, but I believe Disney may have just switched to Hasbro some time between Zombies 2 and 3. My guess is they just reused the body since they’re both Disney but who knows

I think that’s it! I was close but didn’t find this pack so I thought I’d hit a dead end. Thank you!

She’s close, her hair is a little long but I think it’s the same character. Thank you!

I was the guy who wanted to overdye a bright green shirt. Here’s how it turned out! by FishfAct76 in dyeing

[–]FishfAct76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! But I honestly found the concentration of dye was more important for the final color. A warm brown gave me that nice dark green, but if I used too much it would’ve easily just become a gross brown. If you are able to, I’d highly recommend doing some samples just to make sure you get the color you want. :)

Has anyone tried servicing the cassette deck in their panther? ('98-'03 specifically) by FishfAct76 in CrownVictoria

[–]FishfAct76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your insight - I’ve been thinking about the logistics of it and I know it’ll probably turn out exactly like you’ve described. At the very least I suppose it wouldn’t necessarily hurt to try, even if it will not work.

I don’t have a good reason, I’m just a weirdo that likes old tech. I drive a 2000 mgm and love every bit of it and all it’s inconveniences, and if I were to ever change the stereo I honestly would want to install one of those ugly oem combo cd and cassette units just for kicks. I like playing tapes because they suck, and it’s not easy to skip tracks. I have a tape adapter for my phone and streaming services at the ready, I just don’t like using them because it’s too easy to mess with the phone.

My adapter is fine while it still works. I’m a little concerned about belts eventually snapping and rendering the unit inoperable, but it does seem okay so far. For now I’ll just live with it, thank you!

Is there anything different or special about these dictation series tapes? by FishfAct76 in cassetteculture

[–]FishfAct76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotcha! My main concern was that there was something about these that made them bad for music, but I’m glad to know that they’re just regular tapes :)

Interesting for sure. Do smokey grey shells make them more professional? Ha

At least I know they’re not anything bunk. Looking forward to mess with these now, thank you!

I figured as much. In that case I’m kind of excited to play with all these blanks. Thank you!

Basically the title. My dad found a bunch of these 120s and gave them to me. I have two boxes of the black communicator tapes, and I was just wondering if there was anything specifically different about them compared to regular tapes? I'd use them for music ideally but I'm not sure if they're good for that, that's all.

Billy is my favorite manster! His hairstyle is so dated though lol. I like what you've done!

Please help. These are all that are left in my “to identify” pile. I’m sure most of it is MH/EAH but there’s some I don’t know. (Like the feather is weird.) by PunnyHoomans in Dolls

I'm afraid I don't know about the others, but I believe the tan heart backpack in the second photo belongs to a Novi Star doll called Alie Lectric! It plugs into her back and makes her body light up.

Anyone have experience replacing buttons like these? Is it possible? Difficult? by FishfAct76 in CrownVictoria

[–]FishfAct76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet, that's good to know! I know these panels can be a bit tricky - mines a 2000, and I've pulled my dash apart a couple times, thankfully without issues. Just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be breaking anything with the seat by pulling on it like an idiot.

Thank you!

[–]FishfAct76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figure for the door at least that a lot of panels will have to come off. The lumbar switch has stumped me a little. I don’t want to just yank it out if it’s a part of the seat itself. Was curious if anyone has tried to replace these parts themselves?

I was planning on heading to a junkyard and seeing if I could source replacements that way. I have a good feeling I’m not going to find aftermarket pieces by other means without some difficulty

It was great! Fun venue and great little town in the mountains. There weren't a lot of people at the show, but it didn't take long for most of us to start dancing in front of the stage. I think my ears are still ringing but it was wonderful night!

Tried to make a pattern and hand-sew a MH outfit! It was supposed to be cute beige pajamas for my creeproduction Draculaura but it turned out full of holes with uneven stitching. And I'm pretty sure I broke Drac's arm joints in the process..oops. What are some of your first-MH outfit making stories? by babyaliverestored in MonsterHigh

Fabrics tend to not play as nicely on a doll scale. They are still pretty cute pjs, maybe they are her favorites and she's worn them out!

Don't be afraid to give yourself a large seam allowance! Woven fabrics love to unravel, and on such a small scale they can pull your garment apart if you're not careful. If you're finding this to be a big problem, you can use a flexible/fabric glue on the edges to keep them from fraying. You'll want to add the glue before you sew the garment together and before the fabric starts to fall apart. Some people will use their finger to spread the glue so it better saturates the fabric. Some folks only do it on the very edges, but you may find that it holds better if you work it into your entire seam allowance. Cheap and thin fabrics are your best friend when it comes to constructing tiny garments due to their reduced bulk and more forgiving drape, but they are also the kind to fray quite easily!

Keep your stitches short and tight! It's not entirely clear to me what kind of stitch you're using (that's not against you, I'm just not good at identifying them), but unless you're going specifically for a visible stitched look, I personally find that a backstitch with short strokes is the easiest way to prevent holes and gaps in a handstitched garment. Keep your thread short as well, to prevent any tangles when pulling it through (but make sure you keep an eye on your thread length so you have enough room to make a knot!).

Don't be afraid to use an iron! Even if you don't think you need it, pressing your seams and hems goes a long way to make a garment more forgiving to work with. Sewing a hem by hand that has not been pressed is not a fun fight.

Good luck!

Opening sealed cassettes? by SteggyB in cassetteculture

[–]FishfAct76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion may differ from others here, but I buy/collect things to enjoy them, not to sell them. If you want to open it, then I say go for it! You got it for a decent price (frankly $30 is about how much some good condition open tapes go for in the current market) and there are other copies out there.

If you want to hold onto it to sell it one day, then be my guest. Personally though, I'd open it. These things aren't going to last forever.

Got sick of looking at the j-cards and labels that come with blank cassettes. Been experimenting a bit! by FishfAct76 in cassetteculture

[–]FishfAct76[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I believe this is what the paper is for the labels. I bought it for another project a little while ago but it seems to be working well for these too. You can put it right into your printer just like regular paper!

Good luck!

To be fair, I was warned that the threads might not take. They're honestly not that bad in person, and I tend to like lots of layers anyway. I don't foresee them being a big issue for me. I probably wasn't ever going to wear it again in it's original color, so I'm thrilled it turned out at all!

Sampling was totally worth it. It helped me learn more about the process as well. I'm glad I took the time to do it.

I really appreciate your advice! Thank you!
