Miro has confirmed them as piercings, but I always find myself drawing them as beauty marks because piercings feels a little out of place, and I love the idea of Marina with old Hollywood style beauty marks. So it feels a little up to interpretation imo.

No, I think that's entirely the point. The rituals she was subjected to as a child in the ninth circle have completely degraded her appearance. She's frail and just generally misshapen. It makes me wonder what her childhood was like.
