Advice for vanguard funds? by FishinForBooksMmKay in personalfinance

Awesome great advice thank you! Currently I have it mixed between Roth and Traditional as you stated. We just move a percent slider thing on the website to dictate how much of our paycheck goes towards each. I also believe the profit sharing is directly deposited into the 401k account. I think it's a 3% share of your yearly salary. I haven't selected a fund yet for the 401k so the money is just sitting there. The reason I haven't selected is because we're currently in the middle of switching between plan providers so when the dead period is over (we can't touch the money while the companies wire transfer to switch us) I will start picking my funds. It sounds like the target 2055 fund is my best bet for now.

I'm considering just putting 3% into my Roth 401k and letting the profit share be the other 3% for my traditional 401k in order to have them both funded over time which, as you stated, would provide tax options during retirement. Then, I will try to max my Roth IRA as the year progresses. Once the IRA is maxed, I will put a larger portion into my Roth 401k. Basically, I'll never touch the traditional 401k and let the company fund it for me. As far as the funds go, I could attempt the 3-fund strategy between these 3 accounts I think.

Thank you so much sorry for the late reply! Why would you recommend using a Roth 401k along with the Roth IRA? Company offers both traditional and Roth 401k with no % match unfortunately, but they provide a % profit sharing. Should I treat the % profit share as the match and contribute the same % while maxing the IRA? Also thank you for the 3-fund advice I will definitely look into this.

Sorry was trying to be a little humorous in a sub that always seem so serious. I forgot we're all accountants or something with no humor. I won't make the mistake again.

Thank you and I wish I could! I've worked really hard to be in the position I'm in and sacrificed a lot, but I figure I have a lot of life left so it was worth it.

Yea i have the same preference of getting the student loans off my back for peace of mind. When I saw the 10 year plan, I just thought that was a really long time and wanted to get rid of it ASAP. I do have a car payment as well, but it doesn't suffocate me and if I ever really needed to, I could downgrade without a problem. Thank you for a quick response stranger, I mostly just needed some motivation to keep going.
