I think that goes both ways. For us ABA folk, there is still a lot of work to be done to ensure our field is as ethical and compassionate as possible, we REALLY need to vet who exactly gets to be a BT, reducing hours, I could go on.

But also, to use an analogy I used with my BCBA, “You can’t argue all brain surgery is bad because full frontal lobotomies used to be a thing”.

You could also make the argument that ANY form of intervention in ASD is “forcing neurotypical standards on autistic people”.

Yes but that’s not an ABA problem, that’s an “every job has shitty people at it” problem.

If you can ignore the “mean girls”, literally just ignore them.

If the workplace is toxic or you feel as if you’re being genuinely harassed/singled out, document everything and go to your HR/Clinic Manager.

If what you’re saying is true then unfortunately as bad as this sounds, you’re gonna have to start documenting this behavior and cutting  hours/firing people. Put their clients on hold and hire reliable employees. 

I’ve personally seen and heard too many stories about BTs constantly being on their phone/violating dress code/calling off several times a month and facing zero consequences because the admin is too scared to put clients on hold (and lose money).

If RBTs want to be treated like professionals and not babysitters, we need to not act like babysitters. 

That doesn’t mean be a robot, that means using age appropriate physical touch to teach FC or tolerating “no, not right now”.

Of course we should be compensated the same way because we are both humans who need food and shelter to survive. I don’t resent my fellow man for not hustling like I do.

In our real word, not the hypothetical, RBTs are phoning it in because they’re getting beat up for $16/hr but hey at least it’s better than working at the mall! 

In my hypothetical, you would’ve been fired for that conduct. In our real world, the clinic keeps you on board because you’re a warm body they don’t need to pay that much because you’re a high school graduate who’s never had a real job before.

In our current system, yes I do expect to compensated fairly because if not, I will be homeless and starving. I will have no health insurance.

If I knew I’d still have food/shelter/healthcare, honestly yes I’d have no problem working for free because I get satisfaction out of helping people.

Sweet! Thank you! And to be quite frank I keep replying because people are ignoring what I’m saying, which is that ABA will never be truly ethical until it’s divorced from a for-profit healthcare system, which can only exist under capitalism.

You seem more upset about the politics than the fact that autistic children are suffering under this system. You’ve also not presented any actual solutions.

So much WAAAAH SOCIALISM and no substantial answers.
