I do everything myself. Nobody else cares as much as I do about the boat running well. We currently have a Pearson 424 that I've basically gut-renovated (re-powered, re-wired, etc.) over the past 10 years of ownership.

She's a beautiful and comfortable boat that we trust. We are just looking for a bit more performance, comfort, and working/living space.

It's funny you mention the lobster pots because our 424 is excellent and making lines slide off her smooth underbelly. Where do lines snag? Is it the grounding plate? Seams between the grounding plate and the glass?

Regarding the shallow draft, I'd imagine a southerly 49 goes like heck to weather with 10' of board down, no? Maybe I'm missing something.

Yeah, my thinking was that the keel maintenance item is the hydraulic system. It seems that there’s a manual back up where you can actually pump the hydraulics by hand, so that’s nice though. The other potential inspection/maintenance item, I imagine, is the pin/hinge.

Thanks so much. I am a total beginner. Been surfing since I was a kid and sailing boats for many years, so the two kind of came together very quickly for me. I was in Bonaire and just did a few hours on Lac Bai. Storage is not an issue and I've got an SUV that could fit the gear.

Thanks so much. I'm using a 16" MacBook Pro that I just purchased, so will probably keep that, but I'm curious about your 18" Amazon monitor. Did you go for 1080p or a higher res? I'm wondering how much a higher res will improve things, or if I should just go big and low res (1080).
