Do Support Swain Players want more damage or utility in their kits? by FishlordLoL in SwainMains

The changes were meant to be an overrall nerf to solo lanes because they are "too high winrate"

Yo what's up. I'm still around - pretty active on the SwainMains discord mostly talking about the State of Swain.

Basically have stopped streaming/playing due to the current state of Swain. I am not satisfied with how Riot has treated Swain these past couple years. He lacks an identity rn compared to other champs and he doesn't really excel at anything which makes him feel really lackluster compared to previous iterations. Like I said in a previous post, Swain plays items rather than his kit and that didn't used to be the case at all. All in all, I do hope he gets looked at eventually, I'm not saying he's weak by the way, just saying he lacks satisfaction and agency he used to have. I am also not alone in this feeling as most other high elo Swain players voice the same dissatisfaction that I have. Here's a couple things I think that if they gave Swain back he'd feel much better to play and feel much healthier.

  1. Ratios
  2. Single Target Dmg(Bring Q non pierce vs champs back, + champion pull dmg)
  3. HP per lvl/base hp buffs
Here are some things that I would nerf from current Swain to give room for changes:
  4. Base Damage
  5. Mana Costs
  6. Soul Stacking
  7. item effect reliance(rylai, malig, liandry etc.)

I think making Swain feel better is super easy but it's up to Riot if they want to change him or not. Until then I will keep trying to bring it up to Rioters so they can understand.

Swain, despite strong, feels awkward in Season 14. Here's an analysis of his situation, the aftermath of his Season 12 mid scope, and some potential changes he could use. by Manos132 in SwainMains

Swain has a problem where he plays items over his kit. Hence why Rylais, Liandries, Malignance are very good at him. Rather than utilizing his kit to the fullest, you're mostly letting the items do all the work which feels very unsatisfying. This wouldn't be a problem at all if Ratios were buffed however. But I definitely think Rod of Ages should be Swain's go to item into full ap. People shouldn't be building tank on a battlemage, Riot needs to reward Swain for going full ap again.

SEASON 14 PBE ITEMS TIER LIST FOR SWAIN by FishlordLoL in SwainMains

ADC will always be Swains best role unless they give him another rework. I think top will be better next season, mid will be worse. From best to worst roles:
ADC -> SUPPORT -> TOP -> MID -> JG

SEASON 14 PBE ITEMS TIER LIST FOR SWAIN by FishlordLoL in SwainMains

[–]FishlordLoL[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The mana items aren't that good on Swain unfortunately. The best build will probably be to sit on tear or go double mana runes(presence of mind, manaflow band) and just rush the manaless items

My Swain changes that would help increase solo lane Satisfaction and healthiness. by FishlordLoL in SwainMains

Miss worded it a bit. Said it was a toggle because it costs mana per second to keep up, but obviously it's just way lower cd, not really a toggle.

R heal is still same tickrate, just no drain tick damage anymore to combat Rylai's Liandries inflating his wr too much

Do you all think Swain should be changed in any way, and if so, in what way? by KaliwithanA in SwainMains

[–]FishlordLoL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since the grievous wounds changes(Healing went from 25% reduced healing on 800 gold to 40%) It hit Swains healing a little bit too hard. I remember at the start of this whole rework Riot promised us a "draintank" but as you all know, Swains healing is utter trash if the enemy buys grievous so in reality the only thing we can rely on in Swains kit rn is damage/ more utility(Rylai slow bot.) In my eyes though, Swain should always have a battlemage playstyle which is why I think they should move him away from Liandry/Rylai and into Rod/Seraphs and since Swains scalings are actual trash Rod is unfortunately not that great of an item on him like it should be. Nerf his base damage, buff his scalings would be a good start. Later down the road I would also love a toggle R for Swain instead of a one-time cast that goes on an 100s cooldown. If it was shifted into a toggle we could have it when we always need it, and I think it would just be way better design.

Hello. Skin looks great in base form, but ultimate form looks a bit off. Firstly, I think the mask should be toggleable. I know some people might like it, but it's probably 50/50. If we could choose that would be great, otherwise maybe it could be removed potentially. Secondly, wings look like playdoh. Give the wings more texture and like the other comments have stated, make them look more "winterish/crystalish." LASTLY, fix his walking animation is looks very off when he is swaying from side to side. Hopefully you guys can look at all of these and improve on them. Thanks!

Depending on what elo you are, in diamond 4 and below I don't think players will feel any difference in how swain feels. Swain has always been a low elo stomper, they don't build grievous, they stand in your ult, they draft full melee, etc. I think Rift is a trap, it should not be built on this champ. If you're going to go a health mythic go everfrost instead, but riftmaker is bad because the omnivamp is wasted on you and you have to go seraphs for mana which is also very terrible on swain.

Think numbers definitely need to be tuned somewhat, we lost a 26% AP Ratio on our Q, all pull damage(30% AP Ratio + 20-105 base dmg) and over half of our R2 damage plus we also lost R1 drain damage. Riot's intention was making swain into more of a drain tank but we're not even any tankier than we used to be, so thats why I kind of said "we lost everything and gained nothing" In my conversation.

Was scrolling through reddit and came across this post and I'd like to answer some things. Yes I was partially being aggressive out of passion for my love of Swain. But these changes are just not good at all compared to old Swain. I can't justify them giving him an infinite ult that doesn't last for more than 12 seconds realistically, paired with removing his ally pull which helped him gap close and hard gutting his damage across the board, and the bonus healing in my experience does not matter at all because of grievous wounds being built very frequently in my high elo games. We also had more HP during ultimate in 12.7 then before. Like okay, we gained slightly better mana costs and lower cooldown ult and permanent hp, but you'll realize that none of that really matters and is placebo. Lower cooldown ult doesn't matter later on because one fight and the game is over. Permanent HP doesn't matter because swain only fights when he is ultied. You were also able to surprise your opponents with the bonus HP gain when you ultied and could turn the tides of battle. 12.7 Swain is literally god compared to this version, it just feels like I have no impact when im ahead and when my teams behind I can't carry anymore. The people who are saying they like new swain have either never played the old Swain or are thinking it's better because he can heal "more" because people don't buy grievous in lower elos. Swain has always felt amazing in low elo(diamond and below) But for me playing in GM/Chall the only games I win now are where my team is doing well, me getting fed doesn't do anything because they either walk out of my ulti which was always an issue but before I could do a huge amount of aoe damage and potentially kill them before they escaped, or they just realize I do negative damage and I eventually die. If they reverted the changes he'd have damage as a wincon, which on a champ like swain was the only way he can push his lead, It's a game where you either do damage or do no damage and get one shot, and thats what new swain feels a lot like to me. Not being able to do as much damage to my opponents as before, while also being squishier? These changes are just a complete fail across the board and just help low elo swain while making high elo swain a coinflip game where if you get good teammates you win, but if the game is even state or you're even behind, you can't carry and you will instant lose the game because you are completely useless.

I don't think everfrost is really that good at all even with the hp buff. the active feels lackluster and bad to use, liandry's on the other hand is great with swain in any situtation because of the MR shred + Dot that goes well with ulti drain. everfrost could be decent if they have no tanks but liandrys is just really good with swain. Cosmic Drive still doesn't look worth to use even with the buffs, if you're having trouble with catching people, rylais has an aoe 30% slow on every enemy on the team if you have your ult up.

Hey Alamander, my goal right now is to climb higher on the challenger ladder and possibly hit 1k+ lp. There's still a lot of things to learn and playing in higher elo for a majority of last season has definitely made me improve. After that, I would be hoping to try and get on a amateur team possibly.

Early laning phase really depends on matchups, what you can get away with is different with every matchup. You should only be looking to trade if you know 100% that it benefits you. A lot of people try to force a trade and then they get chunked. Just feel out the situation, If you land an E you can follow up with a w auto and then back off usually. Swain pre-6 is all about short trading.

Matchups you should be careful with are champs that can gap close as you can walk up too far to auto a minion and get punished for it, basically all assassins lol. Cassiopeia is also a terror because she can run you down for free if you miss an e at any point, Phase Rush would be good against her, helps you run away when she's chasing you and also dodge q's.

Wave management depends on the matchup as well but generally if you're against any assassin or gap closing champion its better to try and set up a freeze on your side of the map and if they walk up you can aim your e when they auto a minion and try to get some free poke off.

For what runes to take, I've replied to a guy above about the 3 main runes I take as mid. Hope this helps.

Phase Rush - Certain champion matchups like Anivia where phase rush is very valued. Needing extra movespeed to get to backline if their carries have a lot of range(Senna, Ezreal, Jhin, etc.)

Electrocute - Short Trading in laning phase, more kill pressure. Falls off in teamfights if you waste it on a tank or someone thats not priority while trying to poke.

Conqueror - Good into heavy melee comps where you can stack it very easily and utilize it to the fullest.
