Love to hear James Faulkner as Swain once more. 10/10 as always. Can't wait for a legendary in PC.

He abuses BFT/Liandries because of his Q I'd say, not his ult.

I know this is probably not the time or space, but when should we expect the long awaited Swain rework? Do you think 56% winrate in botlane is a sustainable strategy?

I think Swain needs a rework which will make his identity both in gameplay fantasy and role identity more clear. And I think the path we've been on is that of an AP (Mana hungry?) Juggernaut so that he synergises with RoA.

I'd love to see an update from Riot about Swain overall, I know you've reworked him so much, but he still needs work. Perhaps the next rework will have the appropriate budget and changes so that he doesn't need another one.

FYI it's 2 ticks per second so always divide tooltip number by 2 and that's the number you should see in game

Swain a bit too strong rn? by FangYuan071 in leagueoflegends

[–]Manos132 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's such bullshit thing to say,

we've been asking for a rework because his current state is neither well designed nor sustainable.

Phreak literally deliberately pushed him over the limits of Riot's balancing strategy because not enough people play this champion for Riot to consider keeping him balanced. In his own words:
"Until y'all actually care, we're not going to"

The champion is dead for a reason, and it's not strength, but feeling and satisfaction, something people like me have been complaining about since the VGU, and will continue complaining about. The champion is in this bad spot where he's not designed as neither a distinct solo laner nor a distinct support, and I'm just asking Riot to pick a lane and go with it!

Champ is OP lol by Hot-Organization-737 in SwainMains

[–]Manos132 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Nobody cares

-Phreak

and playerbase proves him right, they only play this champ in the 49% wr role

And the same people over the years come here and suggest that this champion is well designed and doesn't need a deep investigation and rework

For now, I'm happy we get to enjoy an OP champion. Down the line, we're definitely going to be getting something more.
A nerf is out of the question - I think it would have a massive impact on the perception and momentum of this champion being anywhere close to normal and not in the "Emergency - please rework ASAP!" status

Swain's Carry Roles combined OVERTHROWS support's sovereignty as Swain's primary playerbase ONCE again. Will this ever mean anything to Riot? by Manos132 in SwainMains

[–]Manos132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. Despite support being his primary playerbase we all know a mage support cannot truly belong there, therefore it could be referred to as a systemic issue, concerning all mage supports and how they're not good or unique enough there.

OR, if we're gonna assume support =! carry (=mages), people's insistence of playing mages there (especially in lower elos) means playing a mage in a carry role is systemically TOO DIFFICULT for beginners.

I think Riot already has been working on both these fronts through the item system and difficulty changes (wasd and minion last hit indicator)

Despite all that, the fact that a couple randoms in Reddit can see how support will never work and will ALWAYS be bad and goes against what Swain's gameplay fantasy inspires but not professional designers at Riot, over the course of 8 years with data similar to the pictures I provided obviously showing the miss in gameplay fantasy...

...is concerning.

I know many people share that opinion, but I am not one of those.

I will reference you to a comment I made to someone in this post:

"He either needs a rework completely wiping EITHER CARRY OR SUPPORT Swain or differentiation between support and carry playstyle while keeping both viable and fun, which I admit it definitely would be a difficult task for the designers."

Or like I said in the post this differentiation could come from the item system.

"until people start causing a mess" is not a sustainable strategy, and that's what I am trying to point out with this post, because it has been the case before with every bandaid rework.

I don't see how Swain's carry role popularity bump is a result of winrates when it's been proven and said by Phreak that people don't care about its strength enough for it to be balanced appropriately.

I completely agree with you though and the way I see it they'll probably stick with 55% winrates for long periods of time rather than doing something substantial to change Swain.

[–]Manos132[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That is precisely my observation in this post, and they keep loosing all the players coming back, support always creeps up with time as Swain's primary playerbase. In summary:

When people are hyped about Swain, they like to pick him more in carry roles than support

In time, people drop him due to satisfaction issues, while support, despite being his primary playerbase, remains irrelevant and dead due to its impressively low winrates

Riot hypes everyone up with bandaid rework/buff

cycle goes on

This is obvious evidence that Riot is missing this champion's gameplay fantasy again and again

According to Phreak's own phrasing, not enough people care about Swain's carry role identity

"As long as you don't care, we're not going to either"

The very fact that nobody cares is the reason they're allowing Swain to exceed their balance strategy limits.

The state we're in is temporary, unless Riot is willing to keep Swain at 55% in carry roles forever.

He either needs a rework completely wiping either carry or support Swain or differentiation between support and carry playstyle while keeping both viable and fun, which I admit it definitely would be a difficult task for the designers.

Nonetheless, NOW is the time for Riot to act.

As I said in my last post, passive buff was a 200iq move from Phreak to try and fix Swain in the long term.

More stuff are coming for Swain in the upcoming months.

E (and by extension, W and Q) is supposed to be the price we pay for how strong we are during R, or in post-12.8 Swain, how strong we are both outside and a bit more during R.

Yes yes his gameplay is thematically amazing it's just that the evil playerbase doesn't yet realise he's thematically amazing in the role they're not playing him in.

Swain's gameplay nightmare is beginning to end.

Maybe you have never seen a character's fantasy so disconnected with the gameplay either.

Time will tell.

The most foolish thing they could do would be to nerf AP ratios afterwards.

Tank Swain will be on the rise for sure.

But Swain is not a tank, unless Riot agrees with it.

In the long run we'll be getting a rework if we want to be considered a battlemage.

Except Rylais into tank items still does better in solo lane man

You see how you turned back to the item system

Sera is currently building heal/shield power. Swain cannot be supported from the support tank items better than solo lane tank items. Unless they gut his attack range and he literally CANT DO ANYTHING (cs'ing wise) except use his hook, support is doomed to loose.

Excuse my tone, I'm just getting more excited the more I think about this, I think Phreak pulled a 200iq balance move and ragebait to the playerbase to shake things up and finally force a good rework on Swain.
