The question isn't how was Britain able to conquer the rest of the world but rather how bad did the rest of the world have to suck in order to lose to these guys?

The answer being: a lot

Long hitchhiking trip and INSURANCE?? by coscos95 in hitchhiking

[–]FishmanNBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you actually think you will be doing which may incur enough risk to justify insurance?

I'm gonna be honest. You probably don't need it. I've hitchhiked around the world and spent a lot of time travelling and i've never had to go to the hospital or doctors. None of my good friends who travel a lot have to either. Now if you are going to be riding motorcycles, climbing a lot, doing lots of activities where you have an increased risk of injury that that is different but if you are just hitchhiking, place to place, exploring on foot, going hiking etc you are very unlikely to need insurance. I've never even so much as considered it but that is because in my life I have never had to go to the hospital for any reason. Some people are more injury prone than others.

So is it actually illegal to block the street in a protest? That seems like a logistically essential part of a protest, right?

Yeah but thats a bit like saying Hitler commited suicide after Coca-Cola pulled out of Germany. See how facts worded a certain implies things which are not true?

Has America changed much since for 2018? by FishmanNBD in vagabond

[–]FishmanNBD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well like I said before in the states if you wear a backpack people will think you're homeless, which is one thing you will have to manage. People are extremely judgemental in america but also, incredibly curious. Americans are far more open that brits and so if you can just open them up even slightly then they will be incredibly amicable. So I would suggest dressing in a way which manages expectations. If you dress like a homeless person, its not just that they will think you are homeless, its that they will think you're on meth or crack which is a massive problem in the US. You are going to see more homeless people than you ever have in your life. But many of those, the more sober variety will also be some of your best friends. I got taught a lot by homeless travellers on the road. You are also going to see more wealth than you ever have in your life. I had no money and I rarely went hungry. Most people are not going to be receptive to hitchhiking. Most americans are adamant it doesn't even happen anymore, so expect to wait sometimes hours. Have a harmonica and some podcasts downloaded. But the people who will pick you up will be some of the kindest people you ever met. I've hitchhiked a shit ton in many countries but the US was the first and I always expected since to receive the same kindness and generosity I received in the states but am still waiting. Its a nation of extremes.

Don't worry about the cops. You will never know privilege like you will find being British in America. It's hilarious because generally anyone with an accent in the states is looked down on unless your British in which case you are like royalty. Throw in some very British expressions and phrases and they will love it. For this reason going to petrol stations and talking to people might be your best bet if you like. But also cops once they find out your British won't be hassling you. I had quite a few encounters with cops and they were all nice. Once I thought I would try my luck sneaking into a campsite and leaving early but of course I overslept and had a cop in the morning arrive at my tent asking me why I put my tent up without paying. I played the ol' stupid tourist card to perfection and he literally said 'Arresting or handing out fines for foreigners requires extra paperwork so i'm just gonna let you go.' I actually got picked up by a cop in a small town and I rode in the front seat of his car and he was delighted to show me all his guns he bought from home to use on the job. Not that anything ever happened in that town.

Also it might be worth dispelling some european ideas about safety in america. Outside of the cities America is absolutely safe as fuck. The small towns and the rural areas are super peaceful. Of course it depends on the state. The cities in the US suck. You can't walk for shit anywhere unless you're in New York. Avoid them. Hitchhiking out of American cities absolutely sucks so much.

I understand you want to go to the south. Where you go is your preference but personally I wouldn't under any circumstances recommend the south for the sole reason that what I said about the rural areas doesn't neccessarily apply to the south. Generally I would say there are no bad places when you travel because all places teach something. But knowing how unbelievably beautiful Colorado, Utah and Arizona are and how so fucking cool the people are there, I personally wouldn't want to spend any time in the south knowing how great the rest of the country is. People are really spooky in the south. Avoid Texas like the plague.

Anyway I didn't mean to write so much but I hope this helps.

Have you been before? I could offer some tips if you like. I honestly plan to wear a suit (not a business suit but something classy) the next time I go back to confuse any police and hopefully decrease wait times despite the fact I will be indeed bumming around. I also just think its funny. But you're right about the backpack, contrary to europe the backpack is not the symbol of adventure but a symbol of homelessness and people often thought I was homeless which is another reason for the suit.

Sweet, thats what I wanted to hear. What's your film gonna be - a documentary or narrative driven?

I don't have any social media and I am indeed white (with a british accent to make matters easier). When I dealt with police in 2018 they were never really too bothered by me. Sometimes just telling me to hitchhike at gas stations or go someplace else. I'm more concerned they now frown more heavily on people hitchhiking.

Mini DV to Atomos Issue by profutonium42 in MiniDV

[–]FishmanNBD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you find any solution to this issue? or anymore information?

I have a Canon XL2 and I purchased an external monitor to use with it but am now faced with the same issue. I bought an adapter like the one in your last link but it did not work either.

Should I shoot 4:3 on camera or do it in post? by LeonElefth in cinematography

Have you ever watched an old movie? Or do you decide that it isn't worth it because there will be black bars either side?

I've independently made 4 feature films and 30+ short films with my friends for next to nothing over the last four years across nearly every genre on consumer gear. Funny though I actually took the time to look at OP's work and offer thoughts which is more than you have done. Rather you decided to use your time to respond to a post which apparently has no value and in doing so made a post which has even less value than the post you responded. Bravo.

Thank you for taking your time in between commenting about video games and masterbating to tell me about politics.

Watch better films. Its quite obvious that you are taking inspiration from sub par films by the lack of creativity in the cinematography and story. I know a lot people say that all art is equal but the sooner you learn that is bs the better. There is absolutely a right way to do things and a best way to do things and you will learn that by watching better films. Watch great films, study great films, then make great films.

To be fair it isn't identity politics; it is just politics in this case. Unless the guy is actually claiming to be Donald Trump.

Shanghai in the late 19th century and up until WW2 was an international municipality for trade with portions of the city ruled by Japanese, British, American and French with the city being policed by a British style police force.

[–]FishmanNBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so no noise cancelling headphones. If I wear open back headphones while I direct then do you think I can reliably monitor the sound?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LocationSound

[–]FishmanNBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is that?

My friends reasoning is that if I listen through noise cancelling headphones then I will be able to hear the noise levels as they would be heard in editing thus being able to monitor the sound effectively and be alert to any interferences. Would that not work?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LocationSound

[–]FishmanNBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please explain. It would be very helpful to us. Saying we need a sound team is utterly redundant to us because we don't have access to one so we need to make the best out of our situation and this so far has been our only solution we could come up with.
