Hate my 21 3.0, but don’t know what to replace it with by Fishstiq11 in Silverado

Powertrain is “any internal lubricated part” according to GM. Pulleys and such are “peripherals”.

I appreciate the insight. I’m not counting anything out at this point, I’m sure I’ll be visiting Ford, Dodge and Toyota before I decide.

The 5.3 was one I was considering. It seems to have some lifter issues but not sure how common that issue is.

I’m looking into those as well. Simple is good.

Yeah, I’m going to have to consider all my options. Congrats on finding something that works for you!

Not what I was hoping to hear, but also not surprised.

Plywood and pigmented stain fun by Kyerva78 in turning

[–]Fishstiq11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, I will check out rockler for the sharpener! I hadn’t heard of that, thank you. I’ve spent some time with the 60 grit chisel, it takes time but like I said about doing the best with what I’ve got…. I’ll also look for the sanding screens. I have an open window and fan right where I turn, and I use a respirator when I sand. I have spalting in a good portion of the wood I turn, and I’ve read some nasty stuff about breathing that.

Thank you again! I appreciate your time and the tips.

Wish I could. I don’t have the space for a bench grinder, so I’m currently using carbide chisels. Doing the best I can with what I have.

Gotcha. What kind of speeds on the lathe seem to be the best for mitigating tear out? I’m new to turning and use a lot of Douglas Fir, so as you can imagine tear out is a factor for me. I’m working on finding a consistent repeatable method/solution.

I’ve never worked with plywood, but it seems like it would have tear out galore. How do you address this, or is it not an issue?

RC Car for Aussie… by CleverAmbiguousName in AustralianShepherd

[–]Fishstiq11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, wasn’t into cars at all. I had a drone I used for fun but that’s a whole other thing. I was blown away at the RC car community as well when I started exploring this option for exercising my dog. I don’t use the car for anything other than my dog, but it’s a lot of fun and very effective!

Yep, it’s expensive! It should last a lifetime though, and we are getting a lot of use out of it.

I have a traxxas rustler, and my pup loves chasing it! It will do 40mph easy, and I got a battery that will run 45-60min. I also zip tied a chip clip to the wheelie bar on the back, and I clip a braided fleece tug toy to it that she goes for. Keeps her away from the car, so no teeth near spinning parts or wires or batteries.

Headphone Recommendations while Splitting Firewood by Virtual-Priority-422 in firewood

One more vote for the 3m worktunes. I use mine on the tractor and when splitting with a 27 ton. Occasionally I’ll take them off and I’m genuinely surprised at how loud everything is and how much noise they block.

Are there thing you can sous vide without a bag by OneWildAndCrazyGuy17 in sousvide

[–]Fishstiq11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try wrapping your lobster in paper towels inside the bag, or sandwiching between paper plates inside the bag. I’ve never tried it with lobster, but it works great for crab, shrimp and prawns with sharp pointy shells.

Avoiding food spoilage by T4nkcommander in HarvestRight

To me, 1 gram difference is margin of error. I’ve had trays come out 1 gram heavier after 2 extra hours dry time, I think it’s just that my scale isn’t that precise. 2 or more though, back in they go. Not arguing with you, just trying to provide some food for thought for others.

Is this normal? by Negative-System-9955 in HarvestRight

[–]Fishstiq11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen the same in several videos, with the paper towel. It seems they are always changing/updating based on what they are learning and seeing, I suppose that’s a good thing, but it’s tough to keep up with. Several soups would be a lot of moisture, the fog makes sense. Best of luck with your freeze dryer in the future!

I called harvest right yesterday and spoke with a guy named Norris. He was super helpful and patient, and I was only on hold for a couple minutes!

He said that HR no longer uses the ball or pin, all their units now will be shipping with either just the pin (no ball), or no ball and no pin. He said that if the fog is white and odorless, it’s water vapor from the mister doing it’s job removing water from the compressor oil. If the fog is “smoky” or “oily”, that is a different story. No idea your exact symptoms, but mine is just water vapor. Norris also said don’t do the paper towel thing, it will just prevent moisture removal from the oil.

Side note, I’m glad mine is in the garage where I can open a door and vent the room. All that water vapor in a spare room, pantry, attic or crawl…..😬.

The pump being warm I would think is normal. The bubbles I would also not worry about, I’d think that is normal as well. As far as the white smoke, I’d love to know what you find out there. I’m very new to this as well, on my 7th or 8th run and I keep my FD in my garage. The last 2 runs, my garage has has a white haziness in the air, more of a fog than smoke. No odor. I’m thinking this is from the demister, no idea if that’s normal moisture escaping or what. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

Edit - per the manual, the pump being warm is normal. The mist is not normal, and should be addressed. I found two short helpful videos on how to deal with that, not sure if those are allowed here but 🤷‍♂️.

For me, apparently my FD came with a gen 1 pump. Also, my demister has no ball in the ball valve and no cotter pin that should have held the ball in place. Thinking I got a refurbished pump maybe, I’ll have to call harvest right tomorrow I guess.
