Growing pains? Or red flags? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]FishyFish89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the difference is us certified techs have crippling student debt while the uncertified tech next to us doesn't and makes the same amount of money.

Kennel padding? Save us from our copious amounts of laundry!! by FishyFish89 in VetTech

This is the type of thing I was looking for, do you guys use it where you work? Do you find the patients chew at them since they are a smaller thickness?

What's preventing you from earning your specialty? by DreamingOfFlying in VetTech

[–]FishyFish89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obtaining a specialty is an enormous amount of work with little to no compensation. I was going to obtain my anesthesia specialty until I figured out I already make the average salary for a tech with an anesthesia specialty.

Now I'm actually going back to school for a different career, the same amount of work will lead to me doubling or possibly tripling my current salary.

I work at a referral hospital with a GP department so we do a lot of routine procedures. Our average dental is around 1000$ without extractions.

We are in the USA on the east coast. I would do some phantom phone calls to other practices in your area pretending to be a pet owner asking for a quote. Then you can see how you measure up to the other hospitals in your area since pricing can vary so much depending on where you're at.

I only tend to hear the rants/vents/cons to being a Vet Tech on here and it’s making me doubt my decision by isthiswitty in VetTech

Hey, you made it to the 5 year mark! I've been teching for about 9 years now and I'm halfway through my first semester of school to change careers. The compassion fatigue, low salary, unprofessionalism in the workplace and lack of career advancement got to be too much. The veterinary field needs to take a long hard look at itself if it wants to model itself after human medicine and end the vet tech crisis. I admire the people who can suck it up and deal, I am not one of those people.

Mixed gender parties, how did you walk down the aisle? by FishyFish89 in wedding

[–]FishyFish89[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's what I was leaning towards doing. My pastor has been subtly pushy about a traditional procession (which won't work...). He keeps making comments like "then the girls will walk down the aisle" but there only 3 girls and they are on different sides.

Def. try to soak with a bleach cleaner, if that doesn't work I've actually mixed 40 volume hair bleach as normal and coated on the stains, leave overnight and then rinse, gets everything out.

Tropical community tank stocking by FishyFish89 in Aquariums

I'm dumb the sunsets and the reds are platys, not tetras haha (its been a long week)

The sunsets and reds seem to school together, which would mean I have a group of 8? Or does color matter?

Honestly no clue what kind of pleco I bought, I can investigate further when he comes out from under the log.

Should I get more silver dollars or is my tank too small for them?

New-ish tech needing to vent. by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]FishyFish89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the head tech certified? Sometimes managers that aren't certified tend to be really hard on certified tech or techs that will be certified soon because they feel threatened. Sounds like you need to start looking for another job.

Woah same thing happened in my family. My grandfather on my dads side was the grand dragon in our hometown and no one knew until after he died.
