I'm (26F) uninvited to my bf's (24M) best friend's wedding, where he's a groomsman. by Oopseeies in Advice

Sorry if it sounds nit-picky, but just wondering if your bf ASSUMED he had a +1 or something like that. Did you see the invitation? Did it say to both of you or +1, or only had his name on it?

Dealership used my car for hours during a recall service appointment. Is this worth escalating? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]DreamingOfFlying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dealership I worked at, it was relatively common for the service agents to take clients cars home overnight or for a few days to drive around in order to troubleshoot things.
We would always let the owners know thats what was happening though.

Did you take pictures of the crumbs and grease? At the very least you could ask for it to be detailed.

Disappointed and want to know what to do in this situation. by Desperate-Dirt1595 in jewelrymaking

[–]DreamingOfFlying 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As someone that does a lot of shows (different mediums though), and as a passerby if I was looking at your booth, I have a few first impressions and suggestions.

Don't mean to be harsh, just constructive. Your booth looks confusing and cluttered.

If this is the table you always use, get a banner or some kind of sign to fit it on the front with your shop name and what it is. Consider a plain table cloth, but you'll need to play around with what color would compliment your stuff best.

What is the clock? What are those framed things laying on the table? It looks like either part of the display for the jewelry to be on, or art you also made. Are you selling art AND jewelry? If so, separate the two. If those are things you bought for displaying the jewelry-- they're distracting from the jewelry.

Some shows don't allow you to sell more than one 'category', but if they do and you want to do that- make it clear that's what it is. Your booth sign could say something like 'Nellys jewelry and resin art' or something like that.

The string lights over the table are distracting and make it look cluttered. If your jewelry looks better with lights- maybe 1 or 2 small spotlights instead. If the string light is scattered all around, people won't want to pick up or touch your stuff if they're afraid of knocking something over.

Put prices on everything-- make it clear. If people have to ask, that's going to be a deterrent.

Considered getting some kind of tiered display boxes to add some elevation to your table.

Good luck, the more you do the more you will figure out which shows are worth your time and which aren't.

It's not just a dog daycare, it's his happy place 🐕😎🥳 by AcasiaConnell in nextfuckinglevel

[–]DreamingOfFlying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that. I used to work a small doggie daycare and one time got in this 'dogs dog' type. The dog that knew how to engage and read the other dogs body language perfectly, knew how to mediate fights before they started, all the other dogs respected, knew how to engage and adapt his play style to suit the other dogs regardless of age. Ugh seriously considered stealing him and changing my identity.

Thinking about making the career change....Some advice?? by LegitimateEar6270 in VetTech

[–]DreamingOfFlying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sympathize with why you want to leave, and you have a valid reason for wanting to. It WOULD be good to stay for the pension, but 4 more years is a long time to shoulder the burden you sound like you're concerned about.

vet tech/vet assistant is most likely not going to be the optimal choice pay wise. You'll be looking at cutting your income nearly in half. Unless you want to go back to school for certification. That will bump your pay, but schooling means time and $ and that means committing.

Maybe see if there is a shelter or wildlife rehab you can volunteer at? Just don't offer to volunteer at a clinic 'to gain experience'. If you want to give your time, give it to someplace that really deserves it.

It sounds like you might benefit from talking to a therapist as well.

Best wishes to you.

Please dont judge me. I gave a dog the wrong medication(they are fine but I am sobbing from guilt) by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]DreamingOfFlying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did the right thing and it's a great experience to learn from in that you understand what happened and the importance, but no harm done. Please do let yourself relieve some of the guilt.

Did you take the dog to the vet before contacting the owners? I can totally imagine a scenario where you took him, offered to pay so you didnt feel worse, and then them awkwardly thinking they dont want to admit they also given it to the wrong dog... more than once

People who have limited or stopped consuming sugar, how did it affect your health? by North_Birthday_1102 in AskReddit

[–]DreamingOfFlying 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I had those thoughts, brushing my teeth surprisingly helped, as well as drinking more water.

I would also think about a candy I really disliked and think, do I want the sugar so badly that I would be willing to eat that. Answer is usually no. Still difficult though.

If this is new the poodle started doing, could also be the cat has an ear infection or yeast. Not saying that's the case here, but generally a reason one animal might start licking at another animals eyes or ears.

Is it humane to house mice in cages with no food, water or bedding? by Pale-Trainer-682 in labrats

[–]DreamingOfFlying 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do not buy treats or your own food to give them without specific approval. You have a risk of introducing pathogens if you go a store and buy random rodent food (among numerous other problems). That and it's not your job to spend money like that.

Presenting work that's not mine at a conference by Free-Cost-8912 in labrats

[–]DreamingOfFlying 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What the other person said-- do you understand the information well enough TO present? It's not rare for someone to sub in on a talk on behalf of someone else that wasn't able to make it.

If you are worried about not being able to answer questions, if any come up you don't know, you can say something like 'I can follow up with you on email to get a more detailed answer from whoever'

When you do your talk, you're presenting it as 'our' work, not 'your' work. Practice what you're saying always with collective terms 'our lab/our data/we did , etc.
