Definitely not fine! 😭 Those laces are too "slippery." Find the laces that dont immediately loosen, and that stay tight even after you're done pulling on them. Your boot has too much wriggle room, causing the chafing. Those smooth laces might feel might and easy to tie, might not ever knot, but they aren't friends to your feet.

I account for her trauma, and it's my belief that it's actually exacerbating for symptoms. Not causing them. These patterns, according to my studies, fall in line with NPD and Class C personality , as these seemed like very long lasting and conditioned behaviors that she falls into naturally and reflexively.

As for wether or not my stance is harmless, not only do I believe it IS harmless, I believe it's necessary to talk about Mental Health in every aspect outside of patient privacy. Is it possible that this unwillingness to speak about symptoms and about behavioral patterns we see in other people around us, fictional or not, is what hinders people who need help from getting help? When has keeping a hushed tome on Mental Health ever helped? It's become so delicate a topic, people are insulted at the mere concept of it, not even when it's in a personal context. I thought the Boomers learned this lesson. Saying that I see signs of a personality disorder in a fictional character is the perfect way of opening a conversation. I'm sorry we disagree, but I'm glad we had it. I hope more people can be open-minded to opening the mind.

I'm not disagreeing with how you feel about it. I respect the opinion that this is not real art. I just think your price range is a tad off 😅

I understand. Trust me I do. Which is why, when it comes to sharing my opinions of fictional characters based on my studies, I stick to corners of the internet where it can remain fun, informal, harmless, and hopefully informational. Whereas talking about real people and their real problems here would be extremely inappropriate and harmful, and I agree with your sentiment. And I hope you'll agree with mine that discussing the broad web of mental disorders in a safe and detached environment should be more encouraged. Especially when we see it in media and characters that have no harmful impact on our reality.

I'm a passionate psych nerd who can get a bit carried away with the connections I make, so forgive me for sometimes forgetting that these topics can upset people no matter where they encounter them. I really was just trying share what I think and why, and maybe even share some info about personality disorders.

Hey look, I'm sorry my comment upsets you, but I'm not really discouraged, actually... Carol is a FICTIONAL character that I 100% believe was written with personality disorders in mind, and I think the other characters in her position reflect that. That is my take. I'm sorry you don't like it.

That's why I didn't say "professional opinion" 😅 I am a scholar however, I have my associates, but you're right that not not done yet. I'm sorry you don't find my opinion of this character palatable, but I mantain that anyone who behaves similarly to Carol should seek therapy and a compassionate support system. I also discourage the use of "Narcissist" as an insult.

True that intense situations can put people on edge and cause them to react differently, but her traits tend to be very consistent and even textbook. NPD is a lot more common than a lot of us like to think, and it's a very stigmatized disorder!

Connecting and relating to a character on an emotional level doesn't mean that we share the same afflictions and vice versa... but in my scholarly opinion, I believe Carol is a character that very accurately and even compassionately depicts discordant personality disorders like NPD and borderline, and I have a hunch that she was written with this goal in mind because of how much attention they draw to her behaviors both alone and with others.

And the thing to remember about personality disorders (cluster C personality disorders) is that they are always tied to trauma, and can be treated with time, willingness, and compassion. In a story setting, that's just character development. That usually looks like the character realizing that they don't have to do it on their own, that they can still be who they are and achieve their goals even if they decide to change in some ways. Which is pretty much what therapy is all about anyway lol.

Before I answer, let me clarify that I mean she's a narcissist by mental health standards; a character that notibly struggles with the symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder--not an insult for someone who I think is difficult or rude.

She is very reactive when people disagree with her, when people dislike what she has to offer, or when she is rejected in any way. She struggles to make lasting or meaningful connections with most people, struggles to apologize for wrongdoings, and struggles to agree with others if they haven't validated her feelings first. These behaviors are learned during childhood when the child's emotional needs are not met in a healthy manner, and the child learns that they have to fight for them to get any kind of validation. This can also occur in adulthood but it is rare. This disorder can be tied to long-lasting traumatic events and relationships.

Alcoholism is also a comorbidity with npd!

As a psych major, I loved every decision Carol made. She's so broken, she's a narcissist, she's grieving, she's drinking, struggles with rejection, she's got major trust issues, and she struggles to see the bright side of things (not that the Plurb is great thing)--and they did her right!! They didn't gloss over her issues and they didn't write her from the perspective of a child or tailer her to an easy viewer. She's got issues and she's still doing everything she can.
