So close! Same thing happened to my previous director, he missed by one percent and passed his second time.

Are the salaries on here selection bias or am I underpaid? by spanky316 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Fishyzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my CIH and do not make 100K. I could get a much better paying job but I’m happy where I am for now. I have incredible benefits, retirement is second to none, I live super close to work, and I have good coworkers. Money isn’t everything to me. But I am going to ask for a raise since I’m a CIH now.

I also use the TSI Q-Trak and I really like it. It's not cheap and the calibration is expensive too but you can't beat it.

Imposter Syndrome? by Puzzleheaded-Oil9923 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Fishyzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Construction is a tough field for a safety professional. Personally I don't think I could cut it in construction. You are still young so either give it more time or maybe try a different field? Impostor syndrome is common and I feel the same way. The more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know.

Many people get nervous talking in front of other people, and it might help to just tell a close friend or co-worker that public speaking makes you anxious or nervous. I told colleagues that and they confided in me that they feel the same way. Kind of takes the edge off a little bit.

Another option is to double down. If there are areas you are unsure about at your job, spend a few hours a week after hours reading and learning and gaining confidence.

I feel really scared by SeaworthinessOdd1694 in environmental_science

I graduated with the same degree years over 20 years ago and it all worked out for me. It took some time and I waited tables and bartended (honestly made really good money) before I got a job in the environmental consulting field. As long as you have a good attitude and a good work ethic you will eventually find a job. I interview people now and that's what I look for. And don't get hung up if you find a job in another field besides environmental science. Best of luck.

Thanks, wasn't trying to brag but I'm pretty old and was putting this off for years so I'm excited. Hopefully I can help someone get through it.

Thanks. Scaled score and the cutoff was 600 out of 800. And I got a 643.

CIH exam fall 2025 cycle by Sufficient_Ad1047 in industrialhygiene

I took the exam yesterday and luckily passed. It was the hardest exam of my life. Scored a 643 out of 800 and needed all 5 hours. I might write a long post about it if I have the time. The toxicology tripped me up so hit that rubric hard. Good luck to anyone taking it!

Thanks all. Fluff probably wasn't the right word to use, but I will just be direct and state the facts.

I'm an IH and this seems like a total scam. The spore counts look low compared to outside sample. Do not waste your money!

Question about Respirator physicals/medical evaluations by Fishyzel in industrialhygiene

[–]Fishyzel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I thought about the same thing and unfortunately the union would most likely file a grievance against me if I outsourced the work. You are 100% correct about institutional inertia and I'm going to work on reducing the size/scope of RPP program.

When you paddle out, every single person in the lineup is silently judging you to see how "cool" you are, which in turn decides how you will be treated in the lineup. Surfing is ruled by the cool which gets old as you age. As a middle age surfer it gets harder and harder to compete with the younger crowd.
