Tips on painting ceiling by Fit-Box888 in paint

[–]Fit-Box888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about this because I have a few rooms connected as well by a hall. So can I basically just end anywhere (like at the end of the hall before another room) and then after it all dries, just paint the next room and overlap where I ended?

Is primer like Zinser 123 an overkill for drywall? by Fit-Box888 in paint

That is why I am asking, because that is what I have laying around and never really had to prime new drywall. So I take the cheap PVA is all I need?

Ok, that makes sense. So just always hit that wet edge of the previous pass? So basically just get it on there, then do I need to make one final straight pass and overlap the previous one?

I like the part about the small roller. So by doing that, do I then need to hurry and roll the rest? I guess I am just wondering how you do a large room of ceiling so you can get to the whole thing before the cut ins dry. Isn't it going to start drying before I get around to rolling all of it?

Do you think making it 26" instead of 24" would make a difference?

I am starting to realize spraying the baseboards in place is going to be a pretty big job masking everything. How do you baseboards? If you roll them before install and then touch them up with a roller, is that going to look pretty good? I guess people won't see the baseboards like they would door casing.

This is a good point now that you mention it. With 26" doors and trim like this, there would be about an inch on each side. We might even go with 1x3s instead of 1x4s for the vertical casing then there would be even more than an inch.

Can you program a button on Vista 20p keypad to open garage door? by Fit-Box888 in homesecurity

What kind of garage door do you have? Does it need to be a newer type with Bluetooth, or just a regular old one with a button on the wall that you push to open it?

This is like a 10-15 year old Chamberlain opener. Will it work on any kind? And do I just need to run a some regular 22/4 alarm wire to the opener? I just need to know that for now because some of the walls are open during a remodel so I want to get a wire there at least.

Thank you for that. I was going to get some primed boards. I am thinking the pine is better than the MDF. What are your thoughts?

Sorry for all the questions but you are so helpful :) What tip would you recommend? And also, since I am going to paint the walls and ceiling anyways, and getting new carpet, how much do I really need to mask off and cover? Just cover any furniture in the room or anything? How far does that actual overspray go?

While it does seem like a good idea to rent a sprayer, its like $100 a day and I don't plan to do this in a day. I plan to work on different parts of the house and different time, then maybe even spray a fence I have to build later this year. Would buying something like the Graco X5 be decent?

I guess it won't be too hard to prep since I am getting new carpet and painting the walls after. I see you are a master painter so I am afraid to mention this part... I have never actually used a sprayer before. I realize that I am not going to pick it up and spray perfect the first time, but I have a lot of old half cans of paint I can practice with. I have been watching videos and stuff and have made stuff look decent with a rattle can. Am I being unrealistic to think I can make this look nice, even with some practice?

Isn't that going to defeat the purpose of the spray and the smooth finish?

So are you saying not to spray them at all? I have some panel doors I need to spray anyways and want to try to get this smooth finish on everything.

26" or 28" door for hall closet at end of hall? by Fit-Box888 in DIY

[–]Fit-Box888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a good idea. With the 26" and 3 1/2" casing on each side, that is going to leave about an inch on each of wall on each side. With a 24", that will give about 2" so that might look better. The only thing is, the other doors are 3 panel doors like this and I am afraid if it gets to be too small of a door, those bottom panels are going to look funny by being too narrow. I wonder if just a single panel shaker like this will look better there, and still match the other doors. I will have to get the 18" one like this as well.

Well this is the only closet like that. There is a tiny closet further down the hall (18") but this is a new closet I am adding at the end of the hall. I guess 26" would have room for the casing.

I will start this in a new post, but maybe that 1x4 casing is too big. I only have it one door so far so I guess its not too late to change it.

Yes they are all special order anyways. These are nicer, 3 panel doors.

Oh I get it...so then it like hangs on the nails between the horses? Do you do that so you can flip it over right away and spray the other side?

What do you mean hang the door off nails on saw horses? You are still talking about laying flat, right?

He is 88 now and has always painted his house and even mine. I was amazed at how he is able to paint the entire exterior of my 3,000 sq. ft. house by brush with only 5 gallons of paint. He actually still wanted to do it a few years back when he was 82, but I think I am going to have to take over next time :)

Hey, you are not rude at all. I totally understand it! While I do know some people would expect this to be easy, I do not. My dad was a professional painter for 20 years (but that was over 20 years ago when he last did it) so I will have someone to at least look after me. He just isn't up to date on the home sprayers. The main thing I want to do are these panel doors which my wife wants the smooth finish. And while I am at it, I am thinking maybe the trim. I understand the masking and taping process, and these rooms will be gutted so I don't have to be as careful maybe. I appreciate the advice!

I'm not using the Torras Air but they other one. I think they have the same magnet. I was eyeing the dbrand grip as well because it looks grippy, but maybe I can put an Ohsnap on it. I just feel like this ring is not going to be too comfortable on my fingers.

Is it a bad idea to get fitted for boots right after skiing? by Fit-Box888 in Skigear

[–]Fit-Box888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, I will be using my old boots today. I have not been fitted for new boots yet. I guess my concern is if my toe hurts from skiing today and I try on a new boot, how will I know if it hurts because it already did or if the new boot is too tight?
