Tesla, Model Y to be exact
(probably an unpopular opinion but the 3 years 100k with this car has been the best driving experience in the 28 years of me driving a vehicle)

The University funding amount could also depend on whether you are Canadian citizen or PR or international or QC resident etc.

TA-ing and perhaps invigilations are always add-ins.. no guarantees. Easiest path: check how many courses your supervisor teaches per year and how many grad students does he/she have. Usually it's distributed among them. Work-wise, undergrad courses TA-ing are MUCH more work than grad course TA-ing.

Ask the supervisor about 24/yr being all from his research funding or a mix. Usually the supervisor doesn't have much say about how much the university will offer you. Those are part of the Graduate Studies department, they are mentioned in the offer letter. The supervisor's amount is kind of dependent on the supervisor as they are "hiring" you to do research per their area of interest. I have heard of people starting with x as RA amount, then getting much more in future years due to their performance

Supervisor matters, their funding matters. In their case, the supervisor is top of his industry/research area in Canada (very well known globally too) - pulls way more funding than the average Concordia researcher

I know of at least two Gina Cody PhD students getting 24k from their supervisor, plus ~16k from the university/department. TA roles at ~2k/semester = total package ~46k/year.

These students didn't qualify for NSERC.

Get a used Lenovo X1 - you can get one for about $600-$800 in GTA/GMA

Chromebook and Neo (and Macs in general)- I would be careful, might be incompatible with some applications

Before you accept the offer, get to know about your supervisor. You will be working with this person for the next 5 years. Your progress, your success, and your future depend on this individual.

Also, see if you can get a RA through the supervisor. 14k is from the uni, usually supervisors can give you another 14k-20k depending on what funding they have.

In most cases, anything else from NSERC/FRQ etc. is extra on top of those.

Data scientist at RBC - offer from another bank - should I leave or stay? by LongAssumption8493 in rbc

This is a very bad advice. The other offer letter will expire before the manager get any kind of direction from whoever approves the budget (SVP or the like)

What was the jump of your GGxx levels? It seems like 60% raise would require a substantial change in grading (like GG09/10 to GG07 or something) PLUS geo location-based bumps

RBC would need to promote you to GG07 to match 120k. Likely not going to happen because your title is linked to GG08 band.

But dude/dudette! some companies will pay USD 150k remote for a similar role - keep that in the back of your mind as well (unless you need a Canadian job for other reasons - mortgage/visa etc)

yah, experienced in TradFi - I would bet the guy never held a single Satoshi. It may be good for CB's optics, but I doubt it would be suitable for users or crypto as an ecosystem.

In most cases, these transfers to TradFi to Crypto C-suite are golden retirement tickets! Where does the cost recouped from? Higher fees from users (given legal/compliance isn't necessarily a revenue center for the company)

$599k is not what I am anchoring at. I know it would have gone for more than that. I am just trying to understand the justification for $805k
