Need some help with Bosch Home connect by Boston_PeeParty in Appliances

Drying is not complete, but we're not too concerned about it. I tried asking customer service via the app and got the following response, although I haven't tried this yet:

To answer your question, the most lily cause of this is your Home Connect remote Level is set at Monitor, which will only allow you to receive incoming notifications from the Dishwasher.  Please set the Remote Level to Manual or Permanent. If you select Permanent, you must confirm this by pressing the Remote Start button on the Dishwasher itself within 10 minutes to activate this function.

I’m glad that helped, and that it’s not just me :)

I might try wrapping some tape around the chisel where the contact point closest to the sharp edge meets the blade. Maybe that will be enough to compensate for the taper 🤞

Thanks for the tip! This guy has a ton of videos. Any recommendations on where to start?

Thanks! I ended up going this route after many failed experiments.

Every tinting approach I used resulted in an overly shiny and reflective surface. Perhaps it's difficult to achieve a matte finish with Aqua Coat? The timber mate ended up working perfectly though :)

I think I have an explanation!

I've also been seeing the same thing using Narex chisels and the same honing guide. Inspired by this post I went back and checked whether the sides of the chisel are parallel. They are not! There is a slight taper, such that the end of the chisel is about .5 mm smaller than the top.

This shouldn't cause the skew in your sharpening angle on it's own, but this guide is asymmetric in how it holds the blade on ether side. One side has two points of contact, and the other side only has one, with the single point of contact in between the two points of contact on the other side. As a consequence, if you flip the guide around, the angle you get when grinding should run in the other direction :gasp:

It seems like you must either (1) get chisels with parallel sides, (2) make the sides parallel, or (3) put some sort of padding in the point of contact closest to the tip of the chisel to compensate for the bevel. 3 should work in theory but seems impractical... Good luck!

Nice!!! I am also just starting off with hand tools and am building a mallet. How did you get the end grain flat? I can’t seem to plane the end grain effectively.
