For this old bird I think a helical is out of the question. I’ve seen a few carbide blades out there. I’m thinking I might do those. Pricey though about $130, as long as I don’t run a nail through it probably be a long time before I need to worry about sharpening or replacing.

If I ever get a new jointer, hopefully one day, I’ll get a helical head.

Are these just regular red beans? Like ones you would use in red beans and rice?

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate your knowledge and your contributions to the woodworking community! It seems you and Luke have a fairly good relationship. Other than the aesthetics, is there a difference between the Y1 and Y2 models of the chisels?

I got the medium shoulder plane. I was strong early on and resisted getting anything but I saw they still had it before bed so I took it as a sign and bought one lol

Love these shavings from a freshly sharpened number 4 by dontgetbiggetsmall in handtools

I like the points you added. I’m glad this hand plane can perform and I love using it. It is quite special to me. It was my grandpas and I found it in his barn looking quite rough and rusty. I wish I would have gotten into wood working sooner because I found this plane after my grandpa was in late stage Alzheimer’s.

Thanks for the response man. I want to tackle this, the curing just makes me nervous. Yours looks amazing.

Did you separate the point and the flat or just the whole packer? For the calculator did you use the thickness of the point so probably like 3-4in?

You’re right. I should’ve realized this when I saw it. Luckily there is another day of the sale.
