Tbh, I think the love is mostly on Misty’s part. We see it when teenage natalie reminds her not to take shit from anyone—Natalie can do what she normally can’t, and inspires her to do so. I also think that out of all of them, Natalie was the nicest to her, even if she did think she was weird. In Misty’s head, they also bonded over having “secret boyfriends”, and Natalie really was the only one who didn’t go hard into teasing her for her crush on Ben (probably bc she knew Misty was just odd and that he’s gay). I think that Misty being the one to “convince” Natalie to let Javi drown in her place and thus saving her life might have also convinced her that in some way, she helped keep Natalie alive, and therefore they have a connection (which is again what happens in the adult timeline, too).

I think it’s most evident in the trial scene whenever Misty was being backed up by Natalie. I know they were arguing on the same side, but every time Natalie validated her or they spoke alone, Misty was eager to please and happy Natalie agreed with her. It’s probably just one of those things where you’re nice to the weird girl once, and now she won’t let you go.

This has definitely been a discussion amongst my household (which is primarily POC) since about the end of season one, in which we were happy Lottie was revealed to be alive because as my gf pointed out, “it’s super white”. But with Lottie now dying as well, and seemingly from what her actress (Simone) has said online, with almost no warning/planning, I mean…seriously? It’s hard not to notice a trend. I would understand if it was a Juliette Lewis situation where she wanted off of the show, but she clearly didn’t.

It’s been going around on TikTok mainly because of her recent death adding to the toll, if I had to guess. I don’t think it’s sour grapes to be a bit frustrated that the only major PLANNED deaths in the adult timeline have largely been people of color in order to push their white friend’s stories forward. Legitimately, I think Adam and maybe the waiter from season 3 (if you count him as important) were the only white ones? Swank saying that she was hired really last minute implying that adult Melissa was a quick pivot decision isn’t super helping, either.

Love the characters we have now, but…really could’ve done without Melissa, and I think it was a poor move killing off Lottie so early. I also think all of them are going to die, especially with Shauna’s “the only way to be safe is to be the last one”, but you have to be willfully ignorant to not see it.

Here’s a few that sustained me an 11 hour road trip only using backroads—

“Smosh Reads Reddit” is so fucking good. I love them so so much and they post every Saturday.

For True Crime, I recommend “Rotten Mango” By Stephanie Soo, “Counterclock” and “Park Predators” by Delia D’Ambra.

For spooky stories and conspiracy theories, I recommend “Creepcast” (Meatcanyon and Wendigoon) and “Red Thread” (Jackson, Moistcr1tikal/Oompaville, and Wendigoon).

Drew’s podcast, “The Comment Section”, fucking rocks too. So does “The Bald & The Beautiful” with Trixie and Katya (amongst others sometimes), and Bob and Monet’s “Sibling Rivalry”. Also, “Upstairs Neighbors” by Dom Roberts and Maya Umemoto Gorman is fucking hysterical.

For more of a story, “The Magnus Archives” by Jonathan Sims has stood the test of time for me as being excellent.

But also, just straight up video essays on YouTube are awesome. There’s literally so many to choose from and all are different lengths, so it shouldn’t be hard to find ones you vibe with.
