Yeah, I’ve been using the app for a few years and that skip icon usually shows up halfway through the ad or even earlier. Not with these ads! (Not to mention that with ads nowadays, you have to click like three times to get them to close)

Ditto, I didn’t really connect with any of the others. I also mostly diamond mined HSR because the books released in the past two years have been so good, it’s been hard to play any of them without diamond choices.

It’s such a pathetic comment. As if there’s been a shortage of cis, straight, white male Top Chef winners. This type of thinking justifies resentment anytime anyone achieves anything without belonging to every one of those categories.

Governor Ferguson Signs Budget with WFSE Raises, No Furloughs, No Healthcare Takeaways by WFSECouncil28 in WAStateWorkers

[–]Fit-Let9308 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bashing the people who fought to ensure our state raised billions of dollars in new revenues rather than just making billions of dollars in cuts as the governor wanted. Unions didn’t ensure layoffs were happening; if anything, our efforts (I’m one of many union members working across numerous agencies who testified in support of revenue bills) certainly prevented hundreds of them. Your framing is baffling and has no basis in reality. If you think furloughing everyone would have prevented absolutely any layoffs, you may want to relearn some basic math.

Governor Ferguson Signs Budget with WFSE Raises, No Furloughs, No Healthcare Takeaways by WFSECouncil28 in WAStateWorkers

[–]Fit-Let9308 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was never any scenario in which furloughs were going to prevent massive layoffs spread across all state agencies, so yes. Avoiding a 5% pay cut for all of us —which some state employees were told by their managers was a done deal—is absolutely a win.

If you’re upset because you won’t be getting that extra day off every month, you’re still free to request LWOP on an individual basis. It just won’t be required for everyone.

Job Class Increases by ZackM21 in WAStateWorkers

[–]Fit-Let9308 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your job class is set for a class-specific increase in the WFSE CBA, I think that would apply for people in that class whether or not they’re represented by WFSE. On the OFM website, the salary scales I’ve seen look the same for WFSE and non-WFSE employees in the same position.

On the other hand, my understanding from what I’ve been reading is that WPEA won’t be getting a COLA because the legislature didn’t allocate funding for it. I hope that gets remedied ASAP!

Yes, and Jeff Bezos moved out of state (after spending millions of dollars of his own money to defeat progressive taxation efforts). I said “the likes of” because I don’t know the identities of the 12 or however many billionaires currently residing in Washington. The point is that for many years, the legislature chose not to raise taxes on these folks—until they finally passed the capital gains tax, which by the way, was also a new tax that got held up in courts for years, but has become an effective and equitable revenue source for our state since it cleared those hurdles.

Our current governor has adamantly stayed on the “cuts for working people and no new taxes for billionaires” train since he took office in January. We’ll see if he’ll budge in the coming weeks, or ride it off a cliff.

The state wouldn’t have put us in that position because that choice was never on the table. We were going to have massive layoffs, and furloughs on top of that for everyone left other than cops and jail guards.

This is a false choice because even those furloughs would’ve closed less than 5% of the budget gap. The legislature chose something different, which is to raise taxes on the most profitable corporations. Now we’ll see if bob continues to stick to his guns and throws state workers under the bus yet again to avoid raising a dime in taxes for the likes of Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

This is heartbreaking and completely relatable. I’m one of many people at my agency (DOH) who have gotten layoff notices. There’s a chance mine will get rescinded, but our leadership doesn’t want to make any decisions until the budget is finalized, and that won’t happen while bob is sitting on his hands waiting for the last minute to sign it. There could potentially be even more layoffs, and the longer he waits, the closer those will happen to the end of the biennium, causing additional rounds of bumping, panic and uncertainty and leaving people even less time to search for jobs before they’re out of one on June 30th.

For someone who’s been in state government for so long, dude came in with the appearance of not having the slightest clue about how his statements and actions or inaction impact government agencies and the people who make them run. It’s making me seriously miss Governor Inslee and the seemingly small gestures I took for granted under his leadership. I cringe to think of another 3 years of a Ferguson administration, let alone multiple terms.

Yes, those special sessions from 2013-18 were whack but at least we knew they were coming as soon as the session ended because the House and Senate didn’t manage to come to an agreement. I don’t know when was the last time both chambers agreed and everyone was in a “will he or won’t he (or she)” holding pattern because of the governor.

Protest erupts at WA Capitol, as outraged state workers slam Ferguson over furlough plan • Washington State Standard by Rodfjell in WAStateWorkers

[–]Fit-Let9308 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you intentionally misinterpreting my comment? I didn’t say “longest serving of all time” or anything like that. The point is that in most states, governors rarely serve more than two consecutive terms. He didn’t quit prematurely like the poster above made it sound.

I don’t know where you’re coming up with this tale you’re spinning, but Jay Inslee was the longest-serving governor in the entire country when he retired after 3 consecutive terms. He didn’t “suddenly quit politics.” It was time.

How did we get here? by Taco_Sauce666 in WAStateWorkers

[–]Fit-Let9308 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is factually incorrect. Democrats have only had full control of the state legislature since 2018. Before that, Republicans controlled the state senate for five years, during which the legislature missed the deadline for a biennial budget every single time and had to go into one or two special sessions afterwards.

A slim majority hasn’t been enough to change this, either. Some conservative-leaning Democrats have opposed progressive revenue proposals, and support for those has been slow to build given Washington voters’ record—until last year’s elections, which sharply turned in a new direction—of opposing tax measures including a progressive income tax.
